Found this on reddit. The case maker is real, they do "minimount" netbook cases. But I don't know how legit this tablet rendering is:

"Rendering" is being generous. I think you mean "generic piece of black shiny material."

Pretty ugly "mount". But I bet there will be a gazillion mounts sold by third-parties. Mount for the refrigerator, mount for the bathroom wall, mount for the car.....

the tablet is in a case, development case by the looks of it,

where components can be added and removed through the back for testing different pieces of hardware,

the tablet is in that case to allow it to be moved around, with hardware accessible for removal/changing.

i have some devices developed this way, mainly industrial gps systems.

I do not understand this explanation. Sorry I am dumb but can you try to elaborate further?

Why would the tablet need to be hidden in some kind of griddle case with rear access to add gadgets to it?

If that handle popped out than this would be the dopest **** ever. Just think about it? Carrying it around by the handle like a briefcase, looking all uber. Walking advertisement for your corporate mastermind.

Without a case, there's going to be a hell of a lot of cracked Tablets in the months to come.

Whole point is this is easier to type/write on than a keyboard. For some people, keyboards mean typos. I mean, have you noticed the writing in boards online? Now compare it to iPhone chats and you'll see what I mean: less typos.

Are there any churches devoted to you yet. I am thinking it might be a good idea.

Clearly iPhones make the average iPhone user look at least 18% smarter than they actually are.

That pictured case looks perfectly reasonable to me. The Tablet will get hot, so the case allows space all around it for cooling. The tablet will be hard to pick up without getting fingerprints all over, so the case provides a handle.

And yes, it looks like an electric griddle.

    I hope you're joking.

Apple has already learned their lesson with laptops overheating, what makes you think a device with a SSD and a chip "similar" to those in the iPhone and iPhone Touch would somehow be different? Sure, they (iPhone/iPod Touch) can get warm sometimes, but nothing unreasonable.

Says who? My 17" MacBook Pro (Early 2009) is much more powerful than we expect the slate to be, but it does not get hot. Not in the least.

I'm not concerned about the thing melting, but it will generate heat like any other laptop/tablet/phone does when running. One reason Apple has moved to solid aluminum cases is because aluminum is a good heat sink. It pulls heat off the motherboard and dissipates it as air moves across the case.

My Archos 9 tablet gets very warm to the touch if you keep it on it's back (on your lap). They designed a kickstand into it though, to keep it propped up for natural convection cooling (and a better view of the screen). I expect the iSlate to perform about the same heat-wise.
