I'll try that sometime, although I can easily live with it as the security address mark on the lid is etched in - that's there to stay!
Try a Magic Eraser with the isopropanol. I have been impressed that 'permanent' isn't always so with smooth plastics.

To my benefit he lost his job working at a furniture store for being on facebook too much, idiot :D
I have to ask. If this guy was just an eBay buyer, how did you know he lost his job?

I second this. Actually, I've just used a Magic Eraser dampened with water to remove Sharpie and pen marks from plastic and metal surfaces. The trick is not to scrub too hard, let the Eraser do the work. You may have some fine scratches left in the plastic when you're done, but a good plastic polish should remove them.

What utter rubbish. What do you actually think people use a Smartphone for? It's a pocket size convergence device - phone (obviously), digital camera, music player, Sat Nav and internet access. That's just off the top of my head.

You might at a push be able to use a PowerBook for listening to music on the train. You can't stick it in a holder in my car and use it as a Sat Nav to get to an address 200 miles away. It doesn't have an camera. If by some miracle it could do everything an iPhone could , it's still it's big, heavy and the battery would last a couple of hours.

I'll stick with a wallet size iPhone with 3 day battery life thanks.

That is the most case of lazyness i have ever heard.

Most of the time on the go i use my ASUS MyPal PocketPC or my DELL Inspiron 1420 I have a Magellan Maestro GPS in one car and a Garmin Nuvi in another. I have a MP3 player that I only use in the car as well as a MP3 Playback CD Deck in my car. I dont listen to music on the go. As far as pictures i have a cameraphone for that as well as a camcorder.

You forgot to mention the wheelbarrow you need to cart all this stuff around in.:D

OK, well you fall in to that camp then.

I'll just say this then, as I've said to the others…it's my money and my being financially irresponsible or an idiot has zero effect on your financial security. I.e., my wasting my own money doesn't have any effect on you whatsoever.

So, I guess we see this differently. That said, it won't stop me from buying what I want. My wife is about the only person who can. :D

I was agreeing with you. How did it turn into a statement like this?

LOL the GPS' stay in the cars, the MP3 player stays in the car both the Garmin and MP3 Player in one of the cars are held in via Vent holders.

The Inspiron is hardly ever used it it carried in a laptop bag on the rare times it is. the PocketPC fits right into my pocket and is no bigger than a BS smartphone

I don't see why you think iPhones are the the epitome of laziness.

GPS - $100
iPod Nano - $150
------------------------------
$250

I could have bought an iPhone C for free, iPhone 5S for $100, or iPhone 6 for $200. Assuming I only had a desktop, would I spend $1000 (or say $300 used) to buy a laptop? It's not a matter of laziness its basic economics and desired efficiency.

And it's not like it's an either or situation. I'm not choosing to have an iPhone versus a MacBook Pro.

I own a MacBook Pro AND an iPhone. Yes, it is possible. Even more mind blowing, an iPhone AND iPad. Paradox?

I guess i must be very lazy.

I was agreeing with you. How did it turn into a statement like this?
Because the way your response read it made you seem as if you were agreeing with those in the iPhone forums that believe people like me are idiots and fiscally irresponsible for buying more than I need or for purchasing something I don't have a need for.

If that wasn't what you meant then you have my apologies.

Yea really, I do everything with a smartphone. I do prefer a stand alone GPS.

No smartphone here, just an older flip-phone I carry for emergencies and I only turn it on to make the occasional call, BCAA, 911, etc.
No need for a GPS, by the time you're my age and you still don't know where you're going you've got bigger troubles then just directional. :(

Edit: curiousity had me google this (man follows GPS to his death), and it came up with 3,130,000 hits.
And after witnessing GPS's in action I can easily believe it.

I gotta say this lineup of devices is such a blast from the past (especially the PocketPC :D). Reminds me of what people were using in 2005.

For me, two devices. A 13" rMBP and iPhone 5s.

its a 2007 PocketPC my DELL is 2008 LOL its Windows Mobile 6

I believe "Lilburn, Ga" is an USA location, hence a 'Gun' related death which is understandable.

you can't blame people's stupidity on a GPS unit. Everyone who uses a GPS knows for a fact they are not exact infact my GPS tells me my house is in the middle of the block when it is at the END of the block 4 houses down from where the GPS says it is. It's not hard to look at house numbers. Even google maps isn't 100% exact.

Congratulations on such an enormous collection of outdated gadgets.

Given the choice of replacing the similar ones I bought in the mid 00s as the batteries had worn out, updated maps were no longer available or repairing the zoom lens I went for a single iPhone as the technology had got to the point where it was as good or better than the single use devices and the price was lower. Plus I don't need a small backpack to cart them around along with all the associated chargers, memory cards and other paraphernalia. I've been there and done it back in the mid 00s ... and it really eats into your luggage allowance. ;)

The one gotcha is the lack of optical zoom that a compact camera would provide, but I can live without it 95% of the time. I'll borrow a camera off a family member for the other 5%.

Laziness? Not unless the Americans have a completely different definition in their dictionary.

I've taken my blinkers off and embraced lateral thinking, and the convenience and advantages it brings. No more syncing a multitude of devices using a decade old operating system. Just a single device that's internet connected and keeps itself updated and backed up automatically.

I'm on your side here, but the bolded comment made me laugh. Most of us are here because we choose to stick with our outdated Macs.

I have to disagree with MagicBoy and ctmpkmlec4.

1. People that use iPhones are lazy because they'd rather carry one device than a cell phone, camera, camcorder, GPS, laptop, compass, portable weather station, stock ticker, notepad, address book, calendar, calculator, dictionary, thesaurus, watch, stopwatch, alarm clock, countdown timer, books, mp3 player, radio, etc.

2. Only people outside of America follow GPS' to their death because clearly when someone searching with google.ca it should only give you US results because the US is the center of the universe.

3. Therefore based off the search results from #2 intelligence and common sense is clearly based off of geographical location.

4. You cannot own an iPhone and laptop at the same time. It's impossible.

5. Obsolete, unsupported technology is clearly more practical than using modern devices.

In addition: Color TV is ridiculous. Black in white is fine. People with color TV have zero imagination. Indoor plumbing? Who needs it? Whats wrong with the latrine and going out to the well to fetch some water. Farmers these days are so lazy. They all have tractors. They should be plowing the fields by hand. Cell Phones are impractical because the batteries die. Thats why I only use a my carphone and payphones when out of the house or office. Who needs a digital camera when you can use a polaroid. With a digital camera you have to hook up the camera to a computer and then print them, an unnecessary extra step. Who cares if the picture is only 3x3 people are just stupid if they need anything bigger.

Cut me some slack here... I'm not a strong as now as I was 11 years ago. Trust me, I was in excellent shape when I was 17. And now that I have kids, it's just too difficult to juggle them AND a bunch of tech gadgets. WinXP forever, baby.

There might have been a dose of good old British sarcasm in there... ;)

To be fair I've still got my iPod which was bought in the good old US of A back in '04. The iPAQ, associated GPS stuff, camera, Dell Inspiron 8100 and all my old cell phones of the period have long since gone for recycling.

What can I say? I'm an American. ;)

As some here know, I am also pretty seriously into collecting watches.

With many antique American watches, the value of the watch is pretty intimately tied to the value of gold. A 7j Waltham that would be worth $20 in a base metal case is worth the value of the gold case when it's cased in gold. Even most better gold watches(as a general rule) are valued at gold+movement value.

I was at a watch show a year or so back, and the guy at the table next to me got to ranting about smart phones. I smiled and nodded(when you're going to spend two days sitting next to someone, you pick your battles), but heard all the arguments in this thread about he didn't need one, they didn't do anything that his cell phone couldn't do, and that people were always glued to them.

About an hour later-still ranting about smart phones-he asked me if I'd checked gold prices for the day. As it so happened, I hadn't. I responded as such, but said that I would check. I casually pulled out my iPhone, pulled up Kitco GoldLive(which shows up-to-date pricing on all precious metals) and passed my phone over to him. He shut up right away, copied down the numbers on the screen, and passed my phone back to me. I didn't hear another word about smart phones all day.

I saw him at another show about 3 months later(fortunately we didn't have neighboring tables) and I stopped to chat for a minute. Our conversation was interrupted by his iPhone ringing :)

Ever been to Europe?

the bolded part is what i am answering....

Why do you think I use the MP3 Player in the car? I bought the Gomadic Car Kit, Installed Rockbox on the player and have it set to Car Adapter mode. I bought the thing in 2006 the battery is all but shot (still get a couple hours or more from it) but its mostly in the car plugged into the Gomadic charger. The only time it leaves the car is to bring it inside, hook it to my eMac and update the music on it. That's it. The GPS (Garmin) is STILL supported (with free maps I must add) Using Windows 7 and the software from Garmin I fully updated it to 2015 maps. I bought the GPS for $15 at a local garage sale this past summer for the SOLE reason my Magellan can no longer be updated. But where do I have to go? the RARE times i need a GPS the magellan still gets me there (just routes me different because of 2009 maps). The Garmin has updated maps so it shows new routes and roads that were revamped or put in since 2009. I use it mainly as a tool to track my Gas Mileage. My PocketPC i got at a garage sale this past October for $5 (mainly for the 4GB SD card inside of it) The fact that it works is a complete bonus and it does what I need it has all but replaced my laptop for on-the-go computing. I do need to buy a new battery and charger for it though.

Did I cover everything?

So you're saying that a PocketPC is all you need for on the go computing, when before you said iPads and iPhones are stupid and people should be using laptops?

This is again you impressing your needs and reality upon everybody else. That's great that you don't travel or need a GPS.

You might find one day if you're in a big city (especially without a car), an iPhone/Smartphone with GPS and the internet is a godsend.

Everybody has different needs. But to call people and lazy and stupid for their purchases because their needs differ than yours is silly.

I remember the days of connecting my Discman to my pickup's radio with a cassette adapter. Had to be careful over bumps or the music would skip. Never had this problem with cassette tapes. Damn, newer technology.
