I know what the answers will be to this question will be but please hear me out.

My wife has been made redundant and the company was forced to close as the boss engineered his own payoff by not getting new orders for them.
When he got his payoff, he sent his company iPhone back and the carrier contract was terminated. By the time everyone else finished, the phone was discovered in a drawer on the last day and was given to my wife for one of the kids.
What the ex-boss didn't do was deactivate the phone from his Apple account so it's totally useless as he is not contactable anymore.

My question is:- Can the phone be totally reset and wiped or not?

For you to know what the answer is and would be you don't have any post or history.

It's just so annoying knowing that the guy did this to the company on purpose and then after his pay off continued to be such an arse!!!!

Well you never said what model the phone was! Is there no one in the company that is on "good" terms with the now departed boss to get him to "open-up" the phone. If the telephone contract has been cancelled I'm not sure how you would/could get the phone unlocked.

Sorry it's an iPhone 5C. No one is on good terms with him as he caused them to have no jobs as of 23rd December.
It's OK Guys, I'll bin it as like /i say, /i thought /i knew the answer.
PS, I was a member of this forum (since around 2004) but for some reason, my login didn't work, maybe as i've only ever researched answers and not posted.
I was clutching at straws in hindsight.

That's a waste of time.
The iCloud activation lock is an anti theft feature. You think anyone can call them and give them a crazy old boss story and they just remove the lock?
True, I'm sure by now Apple has heard every story imaginable. I wonder, though, if it would be worth selling the phone for "parts only" and use the resulting funds toward buying a new iPhone.

Strip it down and sell all the parts separately on eBay and then buy an unlocked second hand 5c with the money you make
thanks, maybe worth a try
