Another SSD advice needed :)

What would you take?

256GB Crucial M4 (Around $270ish)

Or a 240GB Mushkin Chronos Deluxe (Around $255ish)?

Basically comparing speed vs reliability. I think the Mushkin wins the speed department, while the Crucial is more reliable?

When did Spain switch to using Dollars?

I was suspecting that you are not quoting US prices, since they seemed higher than current market prices... but the Dollar sign confused me :)

Anyways, all three of them should be about the same. There are a few things to consider like firmware updates, which I think the Samsung can't do on a Mac.

Hahaha, I didn't read your post properly xD I'm putting here the prices translated to dollars of what I can buy in Spain

----------

+1, just purchased and installed a Samsung 830 256gb SSD

Alot of online sites have them listed for $379.99 shipped. Not sure what to do internationally tho.

Well, buying to the states from Europe is quite difficult. A lot of US sites doesn't sell overseas, and if they do, shipping costs are usually very expensive, and there is the possibility of it going through customs, so it will increase the overall price. Fedex, UPS shipping always pass through customs. With USPS you have a chance to avoid customs, but it's a matter of luck. The price in $$$ i'm stating is the translation of spanish prices in €€€ as the current exchange ratio. Thank you!

I've almost decided to go with Intel's 520 SSD. I've found it in stock even cheaper, 312€ retail version (412$) and 302€ OEM version (399$). I also think going with the retail version, because I don't know what comes with the OEM. Maybe only the disk, or with the 3,5" adapter. What do you think? Regards!

Got a brand new Crucial M4 512gig SSD sitting on my desk. Got 16 gigs of RAM sitting on my desk. Now all I need is my new MBP AG to get here. Supposed to arrive next week. Can't wait. Especially after seeing the anemic speed of the 750 gig 7200 RPM drive that I have in my present MBP.

You don't need anything that comes with the retail version. I bought the retail version and I didn't use a single item in it. It just has all the items needed if you wanted to install this in a Windows desktop. Since you're installing it in a mbp, you can simply install it since it's already 2.5" with the pre attached bracket.

just upgraded to the samsung 830. so far so good and my macbook feels brand new :D tested it on the first day and opened up word, outlook, excel, powerpoint, chrome, photoshop, itunes simultaneously and didn't experience the usual lag i had with my hdd when these programs were opened. definitely worth the investment.

the cheapest place i've found is at b&h. $369 with free shipping and no tax.

Well, my Intel 520 should arrive tomorrow :D First things first, I'm currently on Lion, but I don't mind coming back to Snow Leopard if it's faster. What do you think? And another thing, should I enable TRIM? And disable the sudden motion sensor? Regards!!

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0_1 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A405 Safari/7534.48.3)

The Samsung 830 256 gb can be had for about 400 shipped with tax.

I went that route and its up there in terms of reliability.

Can you run the black magic speed disk test and see what your write speeds are? Suppose to be ~500 but I cannot achieve more than 160. early 2011 MBP 17" and is running it at 6.0gbps. Read speeds are around 470.

Crucial all the way. The Crucial's real world performance is much better than the tests make it look and as of right now, the M4 has the highest customer satisfaction ratings of all SSDs and there is a good reason for that. Crucial has also proven their ability to provide Mac-specific support, which most companies are yet to do.
