I do understand that Intel's do get slower bc of the garbage collection or what not.

No they don't.
I have filled and been using my drive extensively in Adobe. No slowdown issues, if anything it is running faster if you can believe it. Going on about 3 months with it now I think. I have been benching my drive religiously a few times a week and have not noticed any such slowdown.

Thats the thread where I post my benches.

thats awesome to hear. I think im leaning towards the Intel drive, I've heard the only problem is running bootcamp?

PS- have alot of you swapped out the cd drive and replaced it with an ssd? or are u simply swapping out the HD

I just swapped out the main HDD. No sleep issues or any slowdowns, ever. Have not seen a beach ball well, since using Word 2011 a few mins ago, but thats because it's a beta software : ). Everything loads and runs like a dream with this drive.

haha alright, i am pretty sold on the intel ssd, i just wanna know which ones the right one on new egg, they each have different model numbers.

These specs are for my Kingston SSDNow V+. Not the fastest drive out there, but it is not too bad.

alright guys, thanks so much for the help! i just ordered the intel 160gb from new egg. So for the install, can i just swap the drives, put the sl cd in and standard install? thanks soooo muh this forum fn rules

I'm about to drop some dough on the OWC Mercury Pro 240 instead of the Crucial C300 256. Basically flipped a coin. Pretty sure they're all gonna be good.
Good luck.

Yes. Then run Migration Assistant if you want to transfer your files and settings from the previous install.
Also, upgrade the firmware before doing anything. I bought mine on Newegg last week and it came with an old firmware in it.

haha sweet, thanks guys. So now that im getting this SSD, im thinking about doing the optical drive swap so I do have more space, and I never do use my optical drive. I understand by doing so, my warranty will be voided, but say I do need to send it back in, cant I just swap it back and do so? Apple would never know right?

Keep the original drive, in an USB enclosure for a portable drive. Then if you ever need to, pop it back in and install OSX to it. Then yes, your warranty would still be covered.

Yes, but be sure to do the firmware update as mentioned above.

I'd recommend holding off on the optical drive replacement until you find you really need the extra space. When I was running the SSD on its own I saw gains in battery life and lower internal heat temps. But with both the SSD and 320GB 7200RPM drives installed, the battery life has gone back down and it now tends to run about 10C warmer on average.

But if you decide to do the optical drive replacement,HERE is the bay I used and it works great.

Alright guys, sorry to do this.

So I know there are thousands of SSD topics, questions, and reviews. I've been doing so much SSD reading lately its starting to hurt my head. Im running the i7 2.66ghz macbook pro 15", and Im finally ready to make my decision. I just need your opinions to pull the trigger. So, I've learnt a great deal about garbage collection, trip and other things that need to come into mind when purchasing an SSD. Im still learning new things, but I figure every device will have its ups and downs, so just finally go with one. My choices are:

IntelX25M 160gb

OCZ Vertex 2 200gb (ouch) $

OCZ Vertex 160gb

Kingston SSD Now 128 gb

I just want to know, if you had to decide these 4, which one would it be. And mainly, is it worth getting the Vertex 2 over the Vertex? Thanks so much guys.

None

Even Linux has TRIM support for SSD now, so I personally simply wait for the switch to SSD untill Apple comes with TRIM. Then there will be better SSD out like the new SSD from Intel by the time OSX fully supports it.
