After I backup my current phone, I turn current phone off and turn the new phone on. Port number to new phone then restore from backup. Directions in email is telling me to take out the sim card in my old phone. So after I take out the sim do I THEN turn on the old phone to restore to factory settings aka wipe all my info off it or do restore to factory settings before I take out the sim?

Change everything over and verify it’s all good before wiping your old phone. It doesn’t need a SIM for that.

I just bring the old SIM to the new phone, which brings the number with it, then restore from backup. Once the new phone is right, I do the complete wipe.
