Hi,

I posted some time ago about my desire to buy a PB sometime this summer. I couldn't take it anymore. I just ordered by 1.25 GHz 15" PB. Also, I had the 512MB put on one DIMM and ordered another 512MB from crucial.com. Additionally, I picked up .Mac, an extra battery, and APP. Even with my student discount it was almost $3k. Oh well.

This should be plenty powerful for my notebook needs and I will keep my eyes open for G5 PowerMac updates. I'll likely get one of those, too. :D

I'm so happy! Joe (the sales guy I worked with on the phone from the AppleStore) was great. I definitely recommend speaking with someone if you have any questions instead of just ordering it online. His # is (800)409-5381 Ext. 2435.

So, I'm supposedly going to see this thing in about a week. Let's see what happens...

I did the same thing two days ago.
(I did not buy extra ram just yet).
I ordered the 1.25 15", and I ordered HK soundsticks/Kensington combination lock/Kensignton Universal Air and Auto charger/Radtech ScreensavRz.
Next on my list:
1) 512MB ram - waiting for prices to go down from $100.
2) Bluetooth mice - waiting for macmice to come out with the bluetooth model in April.

Today I received an email that my new
machine was shipped.

BTW: I am really impresed with Apple/Fedex. I didnt pay for faster shipment, yet when tracking my machine I noticed that it left China at about 9:00 AM, and it is expected for delivery tomorrow by 10:30 AM....Nothing but amazing.

I am still hoping that my Sony desktop (a P4 2.20 goes south so that i can justify getting a Powermac G5 or an iMac G% (when they come out of course). So totally love my PB 12".

I'm going to have to do some more research, but I'm going to be needing to buy a mouse. I'll search for suggestions, something in a two-button, scroll-wheeled design would do nicely. Also, I'm going to see what the 'must have' software is. I'm in grad school and will need to do presentations, so I was thinking keynote would be a good start.

Also, what is the word processing software that most of you use? I've used MS Word for a long time, but am certainly willing to try something new.

Thanks in advance for the help, everyone. The people that make up the Mac community certainly add quite a bit of value to Mac ownership.

PowerBooks are great for gradschool

What are you studying? The gradstudents in our lab are split about 50/50 between keynote and PP right now. I'm trying to encourage more of them to try keynote, because it produces much nicer presentations, but I have to admit it is less mature than PP.

It's been an interesting couple of years watching the gradstudents all get powerbooks...no one regrets switching :)

Cheers

If you don't use most of the advanced features of Word (just want to type and maybe use a little basic formatting) then TextEdit, which comes with every Mac, does well enough.

Any USB-compatible mouse should work with the Mac, as well. Now that Macs use the same standard ports as the PC side, many peripherals are multi-platform, especially if they don't need highly specialized drivers.

I'm pursuing an MS in nursing (to become an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner).

Thanks for the help everyone, I'm certainly taking notes!

:D oh boy oh boy ohh boy!

Someone IS going to have a nice weekend.
As I previously said, I was expecting a delivery of my new powerbook today.
Yesterday I checked Fedex tracking at around 23:00, and it said that due to what ever reason the package will only arrive on the 1st of March. As you can imagine I went to bad feeling a little sad since I already set high expectations for the weekend. Today, however, I woke up and said, lets see what's going on with Fedex, only to find out that it is "out for delivery!".

I called Fedex to confirm it, and I was indeed told that I should expect it in the next 1-2 hours.

I just can't wait to open this new box (I bought my previous powerbook used, so beside opening the amazing box of the ipod, I never had any experience with a new powerbook package).

Everyone please sing with me...."I am so excited........and I just can't hide it........"
