I would be more personally worried about ants crawling in my mouth as I slept or in my ears as I slept instead of the laptop.

Sorry can't help you, that's just the big flaw of an Apple product. However, you can buy a new one if you can replace it... If you have the dough.

Wouldn't a mini vacuum work better? It just seems like compressed air will blow ant parts all over the internals...

It sounds like running a processor intensive program might work, if the ants are smart at all they won't be able to get out of the laptop soon enough.

Opening a terminal window and running yes > /dev/null should do the trick. If it doesn't, open another terminal window and run the same command.

Or just use killall

Blow as much compressed air into the machine as you can.

Plug the power adapter, using the grounded plug, into a grounded outlet, then turn the Mac off, and vacuum the keyboard and ventilation holes.

Then take that vacuum, find whatever it is the ants were after, and clean that up.

Optigard works great for ants but it isn't cheap: http://www.pestmall.com/optigard.html

Optigard Ant Gel Bait uses a secondary kill method meaning it is very important not to kill the ants on site. When the ants feed on the bait gel, they then become exposed carrying the poison inside of their bodies. The exposure ants transfer the bait by coming into contact, grooming and food exchange.

The good thing about Optigard is that four syringes lasts for years or you can share the cost with friends.

Since it is a bait you don't have ineffective poison sprayed in your living area. Poisons that kill on contact wear-off quickly and the ants return sooner or later. It's easy to place the bait in out of the way areas so pets and kids don't have access. I like to place it on can lids so I can pick them up and rinse off the residue for reuse.

The baits found at most retailers are generally useless. You can make your own bait using Boraxo or boric acid powder mixed into sugar or fat-based substances. The type of bait that works depends on the type of ant and the time of year, since ants will switch between seeking sugar and fat. Recipes can be found online. I have had mixed results using home-made baits. When it works it can take days, if not weeks to see results. If the bait doesn't attract the ants you have to try another. I've used cat food, liquid sugar used in iced espresso drinks... you name it.

Since I started using Optigard all it takes is 1-3 days and the ants are long-gone. I once had serious infestations of velvet tree ants every spring. They are now a thing of the past.

Running Adobe Flash would probably be a more effective method.

OP: It's not that hard to remove the key, but I doubt you will find your ant under it. He is probably residing on the LB by now, and will no doubt starve to death....Now if he starts chewing things, then.....
