Yes, "death grip" will attenuate by maybe one bar.

"Double death grip" can knock off 2 or maybe 3, but as long as your iPhone doesn't revert to "searching" it's connected.

Moral of the story: "double death grip"--> don't do that. Better, yet, get a case.
