Except nobody knows what Claude is. If I asked everyone at work whether they prefer ChatGPT or Claude, I would get blank stares. Meanwhile, ChatGPT is essentially universally known.Promising an ad-free experience could encourage people to choose Claude over OpenAI's ChatGPT.
From the announcement: "We’re not launching ads yet, but we do plan to start testing in the coming weeks for logged in adults in the U.S. on the free and Go tiers." So stay tuned. And I still haven’t seen any ads in my ChatGPT chats yet
They already said that the ads will be targeted: "To start, we plan to test ads at the bottom of answers in ChatGPT when there’s a relevant sponsored product or service based on your current conversation. Ads will be clearly labeled and separated from the organic answer. [...] ads are not eligible to appear near sensitive or regulated topics like health, mental health or politics. Here’s an example of what the first ad formats we plan to test could look like:"It's a no-win proposition for OpenAI. If the ads are targeted based on the user's profile and conversations, they'll seem intrusive and creepy and will cause users to doubt the objectivity of the AI conversation responses. But if the ads are NOT targeted, they'll have a miserable response rate and advertisers won't be interested in them unless they are priced so inexpensively that they won't make as much money as OpenAI hopes.
lmao "Physical AI" - is this Jensen Huang? There's so much more beyond these chatbot-style interfaces that make up the AI race. Physical AI — robots — is a massively disruptive force coming within a year. In Japan and China, people already have personal assistant bots living in their households. That's coming to North America within a year or two. Before flying cars. Go figure.
Yes, they literally explained this in a new blog post on their website. Claude does get most of its money through contracts, which is what offsets its chats for now.ChatGPT is used by 800 million people monthly. Most of them are free users. They need to be monetized.
Free with ads is very reasonable.
Anthropic’s claude caters mostly to professionals. They don’t need an ad based product.
Two different segments.
Ppl not know about ad blockers?Surprising how many people put up with it on Google Search and YouTube. Or on Instagram. But they do. And it more than pays the bills. I hear Apple is also seriously considering them.
So weirdly contrarian.Which people? Be specific.
By the look of their bank accounts, apparently not.Ppl not know about ad blockers?
So… the promise is a lie.An ad-free Claude experience isn't a sure thing forever, as Anthropic gives itself an out in the blog post: "Should we need to revisit this approach, we'll be transparent about our reasons for doing so."
I'm not sure what's weirder now, politics, or these topics.
