I noticed this when I first got my MBA, but when I was done indexing and migrating files from my old MBP this issue went away. Still not sure what caused it, but something was getting bogged down with all the crap I was throwing at it.

i don't have a 2011 yet, but I'm willing to bet it has more to do with Lion, than it has with the hardware.

I see your using Chrome, it's not optimized yet for Lion I read.

Try Safari, it is very smooth on this site and the gestures are great with it.

If so, then, it should be prevalent on 2011 MBAs.

For me, this would be very annoying. OP,does it do this when scrolling in Excel (if you have office on your mba?)?

Just got back from the Apple Store. They diagnosed it as a bad trackpad, and are ordering a replacement. They will be able to swap it out overnight instore.

So then if you plug in a mouse and scroll using the mouse wheel, its nice and smooth? Or even just using the up and down keys on your keyboard? Seems kind of odd to be limited to only the track pad.

You're going to love this update. I suddenly started having issues with my I7 waking from sleep, so I decided to just go into the Apple store and ask for an exchange. While I was at it, I decided to grab the I5 instead of the I7, since my needs are not processor intensive and I prefer the longer battery life. They switched the SSD in store so I wouldn't have to reinstall anything.

I am now using the I5 at home and guess what - it has THE SAME JUMPY SCROLLING AS THE I7! I'm losing my mind. There must be something about my Lion install that is causing the problem.

BTW - I ended up with an LG screen on the new machine (my I7 had Samsung). I really don't understand what all the fuss is about. Seems fine to me.

Too bad they didn't just run Migration Assistant connecting the two through the Thunderbolt port. I suggest running a Time Machine backup or clone onto an external drive, and then doing a clean restore from the restore partition. Then run Migration Assistant to get your applications and data over to your new, clean installation.

I upgraded to Lion on my 13" 2010 MBA, I notice once in a while, maybe 5% that I get the same thing on my scroll. I never noticed it in SL. I think it's a Lion thing.

Another interesting data point. If I reboot, my browsers scroll completely fluidly. If I then close the lid and come back a bit later, the scrolling is jumpy. Weird.

Here's a quick and dirty video of the difference I am seeing...

Dude there is something wrong with your new MBA. I have the 2011 I5 MBA and my scrolling is not choppy at all. My scrolling is as smooth as you show on your 2010 if not better. Maybe there is an option or could indexing cause this? But at any rate, that is not normal and you should get it checked out.

I have a 13" 2010 MBA, and just purchased a 2011 13" I7 MBA.

Scrolling on the newer, faster MBA is incredibly choppy. I did a test today where I set my 2010 MBA next to the new one, and brought up several sites in Safari, Firefox, and Chrome. Every one on the 2010 scrolled smoothly. On the 2011, scrolling is choppy - instead of scrolling smoothly, it seems like it jumps in increments than makes it much harder to follow.

Am I the only one seeing this?

The difference is due to the crappy Intel graphics. Apple upped the CPU juice, but took away graphics horsepower. For primarily running CPU intensive tests the new Air will shine, but if you do anything that pulls on the graphics you'll notice it struggling.

This isn't causing this. Safari isn't going to choke the HD 3000. There is something up with the OP's Lion installation.

Yeah - I can reliably do the following process:

1. Reboot. Scrolling will be perfectly smooth.
2. Close lid and let machine go to sleep.
3. Open lid and wake up. Scrolling will stutter and continue doing this until the Air is rebooted.

Any advice here? I really don't want to have to go the route of reinstalling Lion.

Sorry - it doesn't make any sense that Apple would release a notebook with an I5 and the inability to scroll a webpage smoothly. Additionally, if you read the thread there are lots of people with the same machine who aren't having the problem.

I'm not sure there is much else you can do. Apple replace the hardware, so it can't be that. The only other logical explanation is your Lion installation.

My whole experience on my new MacBook Air is laggy. It sucks so much. I blame Lion :/ Also, waking from sleep causes the trackpad not to respond for a few seconds. Not "instant" at all

Interesting. I just booted to the Recovery partition, and reinstalled Lion. No lag, even when I return from sleep.

I'll keep an eye on it overnight and update the thread tomorrow.

One other note. I expected to end up with a clean install of Lion, but it actually kept all of my installed programs in place. I ended up with my environment just as I left it, just with a clean Lion install.

Good to hear... The sooner people here stop ignorantly blaming every performance issue on HD3000 the better.
