Any advantages to using the thunderport for display instead of hdmi?

So I have the late 2014 mac mini and a HP curved display/monitor via hdmi

Would there be any advantages to connect the display via thunderport adapter?

If your monitor is one of the curved 3440x1440 ultrawides, then via HDMI you either aren't getting full resolution or you are stuck at 50Hz instead of 60Hz.

If everything is working fine, there is no reason to change.

HDMI is fine. No advantage to switching.
