I was so hoping for an upgrade instead of Apple killing it off, but oh well..

Any alternatives to the 12 inch? Would be in the Windows world, but I'd like to have an ultra portable to complement my 15 incher...

I saw the Lenovo S940 the other say, the screen is simply amazing, and the form factor is small as well. Although the flex of the keyboard is kind of disappointing.

Have a look at the Surface GO. Even smaller than the MacBook 12. Not for everyone but I like it.

Take a look at the MBA as well, it is larger/ heavier but it is still a very portable form factor and runs macOS. Failing that, the surface pro 6 is a 12.3" screen and the i5 version is fanless, with by all accounts decent enough battery life.

Supplies still last, so why not getting the 2017 one? As ultra portable it is still very capable.

The Vaio (perhaps the S11, for example) might be what you are looking for.

It weighs under two pounds. No USB-C and the screen is “only” 1080p, though.

Or . . . get on the vanguard bandwagon with me and others and try out an iPad with iPadOS in the fall. You are keeping your 15” laptop after all.

Mi Notebook 12. Same style size and an upgrade m3 ... it’s actually a very “same same” design. Only ~$550
