Not sure why there’s such a big misconception here but the regular Series 8 already has Bluetooth 5.3 (check the Apple.com specifications)!

It was a major reason why I upgraded to the regular S8 from my earlier S7.
Apple later updated the specifications. Originally, it was 5.0. 5.3 was only for the Ultra but later for a reason we don’t know it was replaced with 5.3 for all the latest generation watches.

So the latest news on the main page are no new major updates to any Apple line this year, just maybe minor tweaks to the AW.
I have felt for some time that there would be a lag from the pandemic and this is it I think.
I think the 7 was pretty much there before r and d and production suffered which is why the 8 update is lame and the Ultra is nothing but a beefed up 8 case with a fat battery and brighter screen. Still the S6 processor remember.

There’s gotta be SOMETHING with Apple Watch 9.

Maybe the temperature sensor will expand to be useful beyond sleep temp and period tracking?

“Temperature higher than normal” warnings?

The return of space grey/black Aluminum?? I’d be pretty excited about that 🤣

Think it's going to be a big update this year:
- Same chip as 3 years ago
- new colours
- market all of the features of the previous 8 watches as if they were new
- add a new workout type to fitness+

Hopefully a price increase as well :)

/s
One can only hope. I would GLADLY pay more for an AW 8 one year after release.

It’s what’s been missing from my life.

Id love to have a 45mm Ultra. I would upgrade for that.
Why does everyone want a small Ultra? This is the first Apple Watch I’ve actually appreciated. All of the other models look like ladies’ watches. I’m so confused.

edit: this was a response to many folks talking about how the ultra is too big and clunky. I was having beverages when I wrote this original post.

I know this is an AW9 thread, but I think it applies to AWU as well - the biggest thing Apple can do is the Citizen EcoDrive model - rechargeable by any light source. Apple has cra genius developers - if Garmin can figure it out, Apple can (and it kinda pisses me off that Apple hasn’t)

I’d hardly consider the 45mm watch a ladies’ watch. My wrists are relatively slim and the 45mm fits just right.

I don’t want a small or a big Ultra. They don’t do it for me with their aesthetics and I never go diving.

I’m a man with a 41mm AW lol. At no point have I ever felt it was a ladies watch nor anybody I’ve met away from this forum. I’m pretty sure the sizes are there to suit the individuals wrist size rather than assigned to a persons sex.

I have a 40mm 6 myself. It’s just fine! Large enough, though my next watch will be a 44mm because I want more screen. They gimped the 40mm screen with the watchOS update after the 7 came out

I only want an L5 GPS on the base Apple Watch model so Apple can finally start competing with Garmin.

Immediate upgrade if Apple does that!

I don’t see that happening anytime soon. First of all, the electrical consumption of an Apple Watch is mind boggling compared to any EcoDrive watch. Then you have to fit the solar panels that’ll provide the power. They aren’t small. I have a Citizen Sailhawk, and there’s nowhere on my Ultra I could see that amount of solar fitting, and even if it did, it’d only provide a few more minutes of use each day at best.

Average male wrist size is 6.5”-7.2”. A 7” wrist is supposed to look best with watches up to 42mm. So no, the 45mm definitely does not look like a ladies’ watch!

On topic, I’d love to see the depth sensor (including the water temp sensor) come to Series 9, but I know Apple will probably keep that Ultra-only, since it’s the “extreme sports” model. I actually don’t use it for diving, I just like to see the water temp.
