Hi all,

So my brother texted me a photograph of a spider he found yesterday. I'll be honest: it looks like it's crawled straight out of my nightmares. We're in the UK and it doesn't look like any house spider I've ever seen.

No other photographs available, I'm afraid - when he turned back it had disappeared.

Even though the legs look slightly thicker due to the shadow it's casting, it still looks like it has a disgustingly scaley body. Any ideas what type of spider it could be?

Hmmm, it's hard to get a sense of scale from that photograph. However, she is sporting some large spinnerets on her abdomen like a funnel-dweller.

I'm sure she only resembles one of the extremely toxic, carnivorous, and predatory types of eight-legged horrors. Hopefully she won't take up residence in his wardrobe.

Yep, some quick visual comparisons seem like it might be this lovely fellow:

...and it is a biter, though not too toxic :)

Jumping spiders often wear dew drops as fancy hats. I like an arachnid with a sense of style.
