We all know Apple has been a fan of AMD - their GPUs have been chosen time and time again even against much superior nvidia series. Apple must have a great business relationship with the company. With AMD expecting to leapfrog Intel with the 7nm process, Ryzen offering better price-to-performance than Intel, and much, much better integrated GPU performance, what are the chances that Apple chooses AMD for the MacBook Pro?

Some things Apple may miss out on is the stigma AMD processors have for years of not competing, and possibly USB-C integration? Also the idea that Apple may be moving to their native ARM Processors also complicates the idea, too, but I could see Apple integrating both ARM Processors (for MacOS) and x86 Processors into the Pro, while not including x86 processors in their consumer devices (MacBook, Mac Mini, lower-end iMacs).

4 problems.

1 Thunderbolt is missing from AMD CPU PCH.

2 Single or per core performance is still better on Intel and will always be more useful for mainstream users.

3 Intel’s iGPU is more efficient per watt than AMD’s equivalent.

4 Intel has so much money that whenever AMD tries to catch up then Intel levels up their game in every way including the way they deal with partners.
