I've been working a bit to try to decipher what the URL would be. The following is what I think it could be:

Code:
http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/iPhone/061-????.20080911.????/iPhone1,2_2.1_5F137_Restore.ipsw
The last set of ???? is some hex code, the first I'm not sure but its 4 digits - likely a numeric integer. Greater than 5471 (the touch) but less than say 5521 (say a 50 increment max) The middle I'm not sure either.

If you can complete the ?? maybe you can check if its there. I've been unwilling to crawl the directory because I don't want to break the law.

If you look at past updates and their URL locations there is a pattern.

I would guess previously a hacker used an exploit to scan the directory on the server noted above and found the release. If you look in the iphone sub directory that's where it'd be but without knowing the serial (????) for the sub you can't even peer further...

Note: I'm not suggesting at all that anyone try this or do this as its illegal; merely speculating.

is it midnight in NZ or australia yet? didnt 2.0 come as a sort of rolling release time?

2.0 was released on the server noted above around 8am the day before (which by the way would have been after midnight. Let's assume that they are 14 hrs ahead of central time. It's now 7am there.

That is for an iPod, not the iPhone.

Yeah mate i know that, the point was to highlight that 2.1.1 exists already for the ipod so chances are further minor revisions will come in weeks from the 2.1 update - the same would got for the iphone one would assume.... in fact i reckon lots of revision will come over the coming months lol

HA HA HA HA I'm always one step ahead of you. ;)

I downloaded and installed the 2.0 leaked software. I would love to test and do it all again with 2.1... Lots of fun making YouTube video's on the new Apps and 2.0 software. Got a #1 vid for a couple of hours. Lets see that 2.1, I'm hoping for a unique feature for iPhone users over touch and expecting the Nike stuff through BlueTooth!
