i am wondering if anyone knows enough about the dot projection technology on the X to comment on why here over time this is harmful to eyes? Most iPhone user probably unlock their phone 30-50 times a day.

Apple has stated this repeatedly. Completely safe, extremely low power.

Correct. Even if it were the case, from repeated exposure, you may not immediately notice any changes in vision. It may be a few years before you start noticing changes enough to panic.

JFC.

Can we merge all of these asinine "Will IR make me impotent??" threads so they're easier to debunk?
Noooooo......it’s like Big Foot, will never be debunked. Threads will pop up every so often after bought of heavy drinking. Sorta like tv shows pop up about Big Foot every so often.

It's no more damaging to your body than smoking two cigarettes per week. Your body can handle that level of exposure with no problem and will self-heal any minor damage that is done. Stop worrying and enjoy your new iPhone!

Beside I read somewhere on internet that it’s good for teenagers, clears up the acne. Must be true, I read it on the internet.

Why even look at the camera area? It will unlock just looking at the screen.

And that is not even necessary if you have attentiveness required turned off. You can keep your eyes closed if you are someone worried about something that is a non-issue.

There's no studies or guarantees to back up anything of what you're saying. There are many other harmful ways of having your eyes exposed to infrared light over the iPhone X. Also, it's fairly obvious you try to thwart Face ID anyway you can over touch ID because you don't agree with it.

Check out TheVerge's review and decide if you feel comfortable your iPhone doing that every time you unlock the device.

Do you feel comfortable with focused infrared beams of light falling into your eyes?

https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...s-in-your-face-every-time-you-unlock.2083992/

The things some people say these days without having a clue is concerning.

No, these dots are INFRARED wavelength light, the same crap that comes out of the sun and hits your face every time you point your face at the sun. Except the suns "focused infrared beams of light" are about 1,000,000 times more intense than what comes out of the dot projector.

Hell just looking at a lightbulb for more a second is worse for your eyes than this thing.

This is why my parents kept me locked in the basement for my entire childhood. Now, I live in a subterranean apartment by choice and only leave at night!
