Here's one I just made. Haven't restored yet but it should work. I'm a legit user so it's not set to activate and there aren't any custom boot logos.

Will using that custom firmware to upgrade in itunes 8 yield a jailbroken iphone 3g on windows?

I'm pretty sure the expressed purpose of Pwnage is to create this file. I saved mine to the desktop.

Maybe? I'm just responding to a request by the OP so he would probably know. However, if Mac and Windows use the same .ipsw file then I don't see why it wouldn't. I'm actually about to update my phone with this file, but I'm on a Mac.

I took my chances with this and had success, surprisingly really. I thought I would get an error since I am a Windows user and just upgraded to iTunes 8, plus many are complaining they are getting errors, but I had success.

I didn't do it in DFU mode. I just hooked up my 3G phone to the computer. iTunes recognized it and prompted me to update to the newest 2.1. I said no, and hit shift+Restore to select the custom ipsw and it did it's job. Where as in previous restores that I had done, iTunes would try to activate my phone, but this time around either it did it so fast that I didn't notice it or maybe they're doing something different, cause I got a prompt on my phone saying my iphone is activated. Never seen that one before.

Anyways, just wanted to report my success for those Windows users aching to get it up and running. It works with iTunes 8.

BTW, I did notice the Installer icon was slightly off. It seems it's slightly lower than the rest of them. Weird. But it works though.

Awesome! I'm getting an iPhone 3G on Tuesday and it'll be simlocked to O2 which I am fine with. Quick question: Will I still be able to activate the phone when I plug it into iTunes and then restore it to this firmware?

Oh, and has anyone installed any 3rd party apps? Any problems?

Cheers mate. Just 1 more thing... was this firmware made using the method where you have to choose Youtube Activation Fix, as I'm unsure if it'll work on O2?

Just go for it, you can still restore it to the original firmware if anything goes wrong.
I'm downloading it as we speak.
