Feeling intrigued to get the Apple Pencil 2. However I’m not an artist. I have no need to draw anything.

Would it serve me well? Anyone wants to trow some ideas of why it would make sense to get the Apple Pencil?

Don’t get it unless you annotate documents, sketch, or doodle at least 40-50% of the time... if not, it’s not worth it IMO.

There are numerous cases where people who are not artists use pencils. If you like handwriting, annotating and doodling, it’s worth it - and it also helps as a precise input method. Do you often have the need to use a pencil when taking notes or explaining things to others? Do you grab a pencil when planning a DIY home project?

Just imagine having a notepad with a nice pencil (and it really is nice) - that can store infinite number of scribbles. Do you need that in your life? If you do - the Apple Pencil is the best digital stylus on the market.

If you don't see a need for it for how you use your iPad Pro, then it wouldn't be worth buying even if someone where to convince you of a reason to get one.

I'm a fan of the Pencil 1. I used it heavily with my 1st gen 12.9 iPad Pro and now for 1.5 years (and counting) with the 2018 iPad. I use it daily, nearly all day. My Pencil/iPad combo has replaced all of my paper notebooks and journals.

I love it! I’m not an artist but I use it to take notes and annotate PDF’s. I love it so much that I keep buying new ones every time I accidentally leave it in a hotel room. Like two days ago when I packed a half empty Mountain Dew while leaving the AP on the desk... I never lost the first gen but I’m now about to buy my 3rd second gen. Go figure I lose the one that actually attaches to my iPad. SMH…

As much as I hem and haw, the pencil is what keeps me trying iPads. I haven't tried the 2nd gen pencil outside of tests at the Apple store and Best Buy. I love it.

Before I started drawing digitally, I used the 1st gen pencil for annotations, writing and PDF mark up. It was super helpful with signatures, school-work etc.

I can only imagine how much nicer the 2nd gen is.

I cannot shake the desire for an iPad due to the pencil and wanting to draw, so I'll be back at some point.

Definitely get it if you like handwritten notes on your iPad. That’s why I got it and use it for mostly - and now I also use it for a variety of other things (website browsing, precise input, games, etc.). IMO well worth the money, if I had to choose between the Pencil and the keyboard, I would definitely go for the Pencil.

It’s a game changer for students or other people who work with mathematics or diagrams etc. Or, I guess, generally if you prefer writing over typing.

i tried writing with pencil 2 preparing for tests... its actually super handy, my handwriting is recognizable and with new multitasking ability, i can do tax exercise on the go.

but the only downside is maybe its price, im not sure if a cheaper 3rd party stylus would do the job just fine. For drawing, i know its best to stick to apple pencil 2. double click to switch to eraser is handy.

Even for handwriting nothing beats the feel of the Apple Pencil. Unfortunately, other manufacturers don’t have the access to the tech that makes it so precise and natural feeling. With the exception of Logitech Crayon - which was done together with Apple - but it lacks pressure sensitivity which makes the Pencil feel more natural when simulating real pencils (and is essential for artists, of course).

Im not familiar with third party market but its a no brainer decision then.. No reason to pick other stylus other than apple pencil. Even handwriting looks ugly without pressure sensitivity... signatures will look nice with some line weights. Though i still think the price is a little too steep for people who are just curious about the pencil but aren’t entirely sure what to do with it.
