So, I've got an iPad Air that suddenly stopped working. Trying to restore in iTunes gives the 4005 error, which the guy at the local repair shop said is usually the battery or the charging port. (they can replace battery but not charging port, but it's $50 to open it up and see which it is and the battery seems less likely).

What I'm wondering is, if I pay the $249 for apple's repair service, are they likely to swap it with another ipad Air, or is an iPad air 2 likely, since they don't make the 1st gen Air anymore.

Just curious what my best option is. Thanks for any feedback.

I am pretty sure that they will either give you an Air 1 if they have one, or send yours back for repair and give it back to you. I don't think I've ever heard of them trading up. They've never done that with me.

Thanks. I can't see spending $270 on a 2.5 year old device.

Ron is correct. Given the age of the device, likely repair is the only option they'd give. Best case, they might offer a small sum as a trade in towards a new device, but more likely they'd offer free recycling.
