Any free/cheap video converting software?

I'm looking for software similar to Videora iPod converter, but for Mac (Leopard, Intel.) I'll use this mainly for .avi files. Also, is there any software with video converting AND functions similar to Handbrake (ripping copy protected DVDs.) If there's nothing free, I'd be willing to pay $20-$50 for such software. Any suggestions? Thanks

Ditto on VisualHub for converting files. For DVD ripping/archiving, Mac the Ripper is the program of choice.

Ok so I "bought" VisualHub, but now it's stretching my fullscreen videos to be widescreen. Im not to good with the preferences when it comes to videos. Any ideas on what to change?
