That is a great deal - especially when I think back to last May when I paid about $700 after taxes for my 42mm SS with black classic leather band. Now, how much I have spent on bands has topped that thanks to the SS Link. I now have 4 sport bands from apple, four classic leather bands - favorite is the midnight blue version 3 and the gray version 3. After that is mostly third party bands I rarely wear but they were good for $25 and leather.

Yup, just took delivery about an hour ago and it is charging now...=D

I was going through the same issue a couple of weeks ago. I finally gave up and picked up a 42mm Sport from Best Buy while they were on sale. Glad I did it. When they come out with the next version, maybe this year, maybe not, I will wait for a while to decide if I want to bite the bullet for the new version. Till then, I have the current version to play with and learn!

i did this as well, i have the sport 42mm payed $299 at bestbuy... But for $100 more i can get the SS version which people say its better for 24/7 type of thing so was thinking about return it

I wish they made an aluminum with sapphire glass. This would be the perfect combo. I have both the Sport and the SS model.

I have had the SS over a year and have banged the glass on objects expecting it to be broken with no scratches at all. The SS body on the other hand drives me crazy. Scratches that polishing can't remove. The polish just makes it shiny now but the deep scratches remain.

As if you can remove scratches on the Sport? You're stuck with any scratches on the Sport, whereas even deep scratches on the SS can be professionally removed (if they're too deep to be removed by hand).

My SS seems to scratch if I look at it too long. Not that the Sport is scratch proof or anything.

Agree with this, i actually have mine inside a "case" so it will protect the body, just worried about the glass, but not sure if the $100 premium is worth it...

you have the silver or black ss?

Looking at it too long is just microscratches, which you can easily buff out by hand. You wrote deep scratches, but good luck with that on the Sport! Yes, SS will get microscratches whereas the Sport tends not to, but you're SOL when it comes to deep scratches on the Sport.

After debating a purchase for months I decided to bite the bullet. Got a 38mm SS for the wife from BB for 349 and 42mm SS for me from BH Photo for 449. I'm sure it will be cheaper at some point like others have mentioned, but we wanted one now and an SS watch for these prices seems more than reasonable. Can't wait to get them next week!

Stainless is definitely the better option. I originally had a Sport and sold it and got a stainless. Luckily I did this in the fall before Apple dropped the prices so I got $360 for it since it had Applecare+

I ordered the SS with the Red Sports band at $429, no tax, no shipping. That beats $599 in store. I added the Apple Care and I am still $170 less than retail, $230 less with tax. It was a good enough deal for me!

I guess the sale is over, the same watch is now $499. which is still $100 Off!

Hopefully 4th of July lends some good sales. I sold mine a few months ago, and want one again lol

The other thing you can do is carefully and patiently prowl eBay. I upgraded to a SS...sold my Gold Aluminum Sport for $240 and bought a barely used SS for $309 (!!!!) via Buy It Now. So it only cost me $69 to upgrade.

Most of the barely used ones are selling for high $300s, very close to or at $399. But occasionally one falls through the cracks if you have the patience. I searched a couple-3 times each day for two weeks until I got this one.

Nicely done! With enough patience these sales continue to come around, but they do take active monitoring to spot :)

Another fun thing I discovered - in the used market, for the most part people don't seem to put any value in certain of the additional/extra bands.

I've bought and sold a couple of SS watches on eBay and kept the extra bands each time. It's amazing. For example, I bought a SS with the blue leather loop (and a sport band), for $390. I turned around and sold the same watch, but without the leather loop, for $405. So after eBay fees the $150 blue leather loop - which I love - cost me something like $24.

That's generally true of all items. You'll recoup more of your cost selling a stripped-down, base model vehicle compared to a fully loaded vehicle, for example.

You're also better off canceling AC+ and getting the prorated refund than include it in the price of the device, if the buyer declines to buy it off you after the sale.

Interesting. I'd just assumed that AC+ transfers seamlessly with a given device as it's bought or sold. I don't think any of the watches I've bought used advertised as having any AC+, but I didn't realize I could strip it out and get a pro rated refund.

think there'd be more or better deals with AW2? I may be looking for a SS one but have thoughts on better deals once the AW2 is released.

I'm sure that once the rumor mill ramps up, then the thing is announced with a shipping date, used prices (and new/deal prices) can only go down. But with Sports in the low $200s used, and SS in the low-mid $300s used, I don't think you'll get too hurt in the grand scheme of things. But yes, waiting usually means lower prices. It also means less utility since you won't have one between now and whenever, so that's what you have to balance.

Without there could be a chance you'd get a better deal on the first gen watch once the second gen is released. As mentioned above the best buy sale is on.

I would personally get one now if it were me, or a decent priced used one. Price tag doesn't matter much if you get great use out of it :)

Actually, with a Dremel and the proper attachments, those can be buffed out too.
