i have a ipod touch first generation it would freeze for ah little then the apple sign would come up on the screen (only sometimes) now my ipod was nearly dead but it froze before i plugged it in but the apple sign isnt coming up it happened ah few minutes ago so i dont know if it froze or if the battery died i plugged it in and i still didnt see anything on the screen it just got very warm so if anybody knows more about ipods that can give me advice i would greatly appreciate it.

i think that your ipod just died in your hands...not sure
 
Try restoring the device by putting it in DFU mode. If a restore doesn't work then chances are it is pooched
 
As Staet stated,

How to get into DFU mode:

- Connect your iPod Touch to your computer with iTunes open

- Turn off your iPod Touch (hold down the power/sleep/wake button (on the top) until you see the red slider and slide the red slider across to the right).

- Hold down the power/sleep/wake button (on the top) and the home button (on the front) for about 10 seconds

- Release the power/sleep/wake button but continue holding the home button

- iTunes should pop up and tell you it’s found a device in recovery mode
