Get the iBook 900.

I've owned the PB 12" but I really wasn't impressed with it. I couldn't see any obvious advantages over the iBook that would make it worth the extra money, weight and heat.

Personally, I have no need for BlueTooth (my cell phone doesn't have it and I don't use a PDA)
AirPort EX is an overkill (my original AirPort card is as fast as I'll ever need with my cable modem)
The iBook is lighter and runs cooler.. the fan has only come on once that I remember. The PB's fan was on quite a bit more.
The iBook was just a tad slower with CD ripping and visualizations. Not that big of a deal.

And yes, the finish on the PB is pretty slick but the iBook is so damn cute! If you wanna get the girls, the iBook will help you for sure.

Anyway, you're getting an Apple portable no matter which one you choose so it's a win-win situation. Good luck!

the ibook is a realy great extension of any desktop you might have.
As an 'only' computer I would not get a Laptop at all. I consider the Desktop the real computer, and laptops luxurious extensions of them, since a mobile comuter is exposed to various hazards a desktop isn't , and you wouldn't want to loose any data...

No complaints from me. My iBook is the best notebook ive ever owned. Its strong, performs well and its sweet lookin (I too pick up chicks with my iBook :))

Hope it works out for you.

Cheers.

I thought that the 12"PB was lighter (not to mention slightly smaller) than the 12" iBook. Something like 4.6lbs for the PB and 4.9lbs for the iBook.

You may consider using Apple's Educational pricing, in which case you can get a 12" PB Combo for $1399, just a $100 more than the regular pricing for a 12" iBook Combo. I'd seriously consider it. It's thinner. It has a G4. It has bluetooth.

Here is what I did yesterday @ an Apple store. I just told them I was going to buy from MacWarehouse who had free max RAM, and other goodies... They honored the free extra RAM and discounted some items to make me buy from them. It worked.... I pick up my new 14" iBook later on today.... good luck!

I could never tell them to do that! I've tried to ask them if I could purchase with government discount with my government ID there, and they said no. Macconnection offers free shipping to my user group members, no sales tax, and government employee discount. That starts to add up!

Educational discount and government discount it seems you have to order via mail order.

Why couldn't you tell them that? In my case it was true. They went to the website and saw exactly what MacWarehouse offered. They agreed to basically match the deal. I didn't twist anybody's arm....

Thanks

Hey everyone!
Thanks for you replies. I got my 12in iBook 900 yesterday. I haven't upgraded the ram, but even so, it sill runs great. I don't do anything hardcore on it that would require tons of ram, but I am still gonna max it out, cause I cant play SimCity4 on without more ram. A part of me still wanted the PowerBook, but I can always sell this one next year and upgrade, becuase it does seem that mac notebooks go for quite a bit used.
I read someone say the iBook looks cheap. I must disagree. I think it looks great. The only bummer is that I bought it yesterday and I only got $50 off for my education discouont, and it should have been $100. I am going to call them this afternoon and see if I can get a refund.

Well anyways, thanks again.
