I think when the designers and engineers got into a room and started jotting down the attributes for the ultimate portable machine... batt life, power and portability were at the top of the list. backlit keyboard is a nice-to-have and when it works against batt life, a top attribute, it was nix'ed. Also instead of them getting complaints of 'hey i want backlit keyboard!' ...it would be 'hey you lied...i can't get up to 7-hours batt life!!'

but think if it this way, the Air will make all of us better typists. and fyi, the mac app store has a free learn-to-type app called...'Typist'

Finally to make an attempt at answering your question. Maybe? ...they may include it in the next edition because they may be able to reel in this segment of customers if large enough.

Personally I'd rather have the batt life and learn to type - makes you more productive and efficient.

I agree. I'd only want a BL keyboard if there was also an option to turn it off and if it wouldn't make the MBA any thicker.

GPU= Intel graphic card is the only option with sandy bridge.

Backlit keyboard= Can't be too hard to put it back in? No. They took it out to cut the cost down. Maybe you are not even reading what I wrote.

If you want all of those features, get yourself a MBP.

But I don't want a Pro :p I was only asking for a backlit keyboard... Like my first gen has :p

Funny. My 2008 (rev.c) MBA has a backlit keyboard and, whoa!, an option via the F-keys to dim or completely turn it off !!!!!!
