A bugbear of mine is how bad iOS is at handling tethered wifi or a metered connection.

On my iPhone I can adjust which apps use mobile data so I can adapt based on what data plan I have. But if I am using a mobile wifi hotspot (do that a lot on holiday for example), or using my iPad tethered to my iPhone, the device sees 'oh wifi' and sucks up data like a crazy thing.

I'd like a third option - some way to tell iOS 'hey, this device you're connecting to looks like wifi, but it has a limited data plan so please use mobile settings and not your usual wifi one for this'

That would be useful! I've had my data allowance drained away by one of those dodgy "here's a wifi access point that you'll auto-connect to but we'll charge you the same as 3G/4G aren't we nice!" cons that my mobile provider uses. Luckily there's only two wifi names and I turn auto-join off.

It would be great to have a "this uses mobile data' toggle for wifi networks.
