well first off, are you replacing the HDD in your MBP (internal), or getting one to possibly make a clone or for use with time machine (external). because it looks like your looking for an internal HDD, and the one that your looking at is an external.

I highly doubt the HDD in that external enclosure is a 2.5" it's probably a 3.5" and thus wouldn't fit in your MBP.

while that is a 2.5" drive (portable WD external), I read something about how the usb connector on recent WD external drives is directly attached to the board. So, if you were to take out the internal drive, it'd still only have a USB connector, and not a SATA, which you need to put it into your notebook.

It is bus powered, so I doubt it's a 3.5" drive. As far as it being an external drive, he may be thinking of putting the drive from the enclosure in his Mac, and putting the factory drive from his Mac into that enclosure. It's not a stretch and its a simple process.

The WD external drive I bought just a few days ago had normal sata connectors. It had a small board that connected to the drive to convert the sata to a usb interface.

There are better HDDs out their, some made by WD. Your money is going towards the enclosure more than the actual HD itself. I would buy a true internal 2.5in HDD or SSD, and then get a kit to make your existing 250 gig into a USB external drive; my upgraded hard drive came with a free kit to do this. Some of these kits are really cheap priced.

I have the same WD external drive and i used the housing to clone my Macbook Pro HDD to my new 1TB HDD.

It's 2.5" and is SATA, theres a small board between the HDD and the USB port.

The HDD in the External HDD was exactly the same size as my Macbook Pro HDD.
