This might be a dumb post but are there current iPhone mini owners out there if they are confused on upgrading or not?
I currently have a 13 mini which I like a lot, it still works and is perfect and has 96% battery life.
But having usb type-c on the new phones is tempting me to upgrade to the base iphone 15, but not sure if I should update since what if the SE comes out and small, I honestly only went from the SE3 to the Mini because i got a good deal. Would we ever see an Iphone 8/SE with usb c? or new iPhone mini with usb type-c? that is my question lol
All of my devices such as my xbox, switch, laptop, speaker, etc are using the same cable to charge and it would be very nice to make my last device using lighting go away but since i already have plenty of lighting cables around not sure. Just a thought I had! :)

Honestly - just try the 15 or 15 Pro. You may be surprised at how easy it is to live with.

I always used to go for the smallest phones, loved the 12 mini and 13 mini and couldn't bear the thought of a larger/heavier phone.

After the 13 mini was discontinued I reluctantly tried the 15 Pro. It's absolutely fine - mostly because the drop in weight from the 14 Pro and more even weight distribution makes it much easier to hold. 100% happy now, it's really not much different to live with than the 13 mini, never thought I'd say that about a larger phone.

A 15 (non-Pro) is even lighter.

I am thinking of the regular honestly, Pro's have never been for me. I prefer light of it and the 2 camera look rather than the 3 big wholes.

Thanks for your feedback on this as i plan to do the same in the next few months and upgrade to a 15 Pro from my 13 mini. Ive tried the 15 Pro in store and its the only phone in the 15 series i would even consider tbh, like you said feels good in hand, its the smallest and fairly light despite being a Pro model.

Good to know. However, back to OP...

Seems a bit overkill to upgrade a phone just because of USB-C. I get it, nice to have just one cable, but to me, not a great reason.

Most of my stuff these days is USB-C as well, but not getting rid of 13 Mini because it's not USB-C. I have a ton of Lightning cables lying around, so availability is not an issue. Matter of fact, switched from SE 2020 to 13 Mini in March 2023 due to size, not "full-priced" phone, and SE rumors are 6.1" which I don't want for the foreseeable future. USB-C never was a deciding factor.

Basically, USB-C is totally unimportant for me and have no plans for a 6.1" phone for next 3-5 years. I want as small as possible for now.

And, as discussed in this older thread, Lightning still has some life left to it, so cables will be around for a while.

Not at all.

I consciously/specifically purchased a 13-mini two months ago (as an upgrade to my 12-mini) with the intent to successfully weather the days ahead (many, many days--it seems--bereft of a [Future] Product which satisfies me).

The iPhone mini was my favourite phone of all time. I was still rocking my 12 mini when the 15s came out. I was really reluctant to switch. Every time I picked up my wife’s 13 pro, it felt like a brick. That said it was time to upgrade. My mini battery was down to 85%. Let’s face it, battery life was always the minis Achilles heel, even at full strength. And there were too many upgraded and new features to ignore.( better screen, faster, processor, longer, battery life, dynamic island, better camera, etc). The 15 pro is an amazing machine, and I’m glad I switched. And the slightly reduced weight and size make the transition from the mini a little easier. Although I have got used to the extra bulk, I still miss the mini. It remains the perfect form factor for me, and if there was a 15 mini, I would have bought it without thinking. But there isn’t.

Came from a 13 mini. The closest to a mini you can get this year is the base 15. Fantastic and light.

Definitely reluctant. Will get my 15 Pro in a week or two. Might still return it, if i can't get used to it.

But had to be the Pro. For a regular 15 i wouldn't see enough feature difference to make the switch. And the 15 Pro has a lower width than the iPhone X had, which was a pretty okay size for me. So my only problem will likely be the weight.

My wife has a 13 Mini and she refuses to change absolutely no big phone for her. She has had hers for a couple years and is a light user of it some Facebook use and phone use with a quick picture once in a while. She hardly ever uses it for internet preferring her MacBook Air for that. Since it took her almost 6 months to get used to reliably using Face ID she has no desire and with her Mini still having 97% battery life I just don’t say anything. Oh yeah my wife is 78 years young and I just happy at the fact she can use her phone as she does

Every time I use a 6.1 inch iPhone (which is fairly regularly in my line of work) I find it so annoying to type on and use, so will be sticking with my 13 Mini for the foreseeable future.
