Does anyone use the newest Siri remote in a full home theater set up with a separate AVR that all components, including my ATV, run through? If so, how does it work? Any downside to using it?

Thanks for any thoughts.

So no one has a full home theater set up and use the Siri remote to control volume and such?

I am not really sure what you are asking.

Are you referring to volume up and down? Turning on and off?

Yes, exactly. Are there any issues doing this with a separate AVR in a 5.0 system?

No. If using HDMI, and the AVR has CEC support, it should work without doing any programing (maybe you have to turn on CEC?) using the Siri Remote.

If there is no CEC support, you can still get it to work with volume up, down, and mute. tvOS has a really easy way of programing it in the remote settings. There is a couple ways that Apple provides, but the easiest is just pointing the AVR remote (assuming it is IR) at the ATV and press the volume buttons when prompted. It only takes a few seconds then your Siri Remote automatically learns the IR commands to adjust the volume on your AVR.

Thanks. I get the message about enabling the volume control but I have always been hesitant to enable it. I do have CEC support and I am using HDMI. So maybe I will give it a try. Thanks again.

No problems here. My 4K Apple TV (2nd gen) is connected via a Denon X1700H A/V amp. The volume control/mute on the Siri Remote works the amp. I didn't even recall having to set it up, it just worked.

I have such a setup For a long time. Everything works fine for many years. This summer i switched to an ATV 4K (not the newest model). Yesterday Volumen Up/Down stoped working. The Up/Down buttons control my AV-Receiver using IR. I tried the „Reset-Procedure“, mentioned everywhere but that didn‘t solve the issue. So i deleted the pairing to the AV-Receiver remote and wanted to pair it again, but i can‘t. The ATV remote does not recognize the signal from my AV-Receiver remote. The AV-Receiver remote works fine. I can also see the IR Led flashing in my ATV Remote, so no electronic problem there. I am on TVOS 16.2. Anyone else had this issue and can help me?

Got it working again! The trick was: Turn of: Controling TV volumen using IR. Then go to pairing and now it recognizes the remote.

Thanks for sharing this.. after years of no issues with previous units, I have to reset at least once a week with the latest Apple 4k tv
