It seems like I’m losing battery really quickly, and I don’t know why. I’m wondering if there was anything that had been announced about battery issues that maybe I missed.

Not that I've seen. Have you checked System-Battery to see what's using the power? Can you take it into Apple? They can do a more in-depth diagnostic.

For me, I notice that just like the iPP, Safari on the 2018 iPad is a battery hog. To say nothing of the pencil in Bluetooth.

I haven’t checked how many hours I get because I just do not use it enough to warrant worry, and since my mom will inherit it, she is such a Luddite she won’t notice.

The most I charge it is once a day.

Sound advice in the post above me. If it continues, definitely have Apple take a look.

If I use my 2018 iPad at full brightness, the battery really doesn't last very long - 4 to 5 hours. Turning the screen down greatly extends this, but I sometimes watch movies on the porch during the afternoon and need full screen brightness. This is my first iPad (but I've had Macs since 1985 and iPhones since 2009) and I was rather surprised the battery didn't last longer. My 2013 11" MacBook Air runs almost as long and it still has the original battery.

That's expected. Full brightness never got great battery life. I never use my iPad with full brightness but I have used iPod Touches and iPhones and battery life is around half with the same usage if brightness is max.
