OK so I can confirm that redsn0w beta 5 recognises the GM but not the official release, even tho both are 8A293
i can confirm that you can jailbreak the offical ios 4 by doing the following:
1) download the corresponsing GM for your i device
2) download redsnow 0.9.5 beta
3) open the GM ipsw with redsnow
4) Jailbreak officially updated iphone/touch.
i did this on a 3g

i can confirm that you can jailbreak the offical ios 4 by doing the following:
1) download the corresponsing GM for your i device
2) download redsnow 0.9.5 beta
3) open the GM ipsw with redsnow
4) Jailbreak officially updated iphone/touch.

I'm going to try this on my 3GS... but first, will it wipe any of my media/data? There are a lot of things I have on this iPhone that I don't have on my laptop so I need a 100% sure reply :S

Well i tried this with an iPhone 3G, Redsn0w Beta 5.
Loaded the GM, selected cydia, wallpaper etc settings. It loaded and seemed to work fine on the iphone. Once it had restarted it was exactly the same with my original lockscreen wallpaper, no settings changed, same FW etc.
EDIT: I noticed in Chrome the ipsw had been renamed due to a duplicate (official) ipsw. I'm going to rename it back and give it another shot!
EDIT: Oo just realised 65816

Just successfully jailbroke my second-generation iPod touch. Here's how:
1. Downloaded redsn0w 0.9.5b5-2
2. Used the GM IPSW file for redsn0w
3. Allowed the jailbreak to take place
That's it! Multitasking works fine, but wallpapers makes the device lag a lot (already removed it.)

Ok RE: my op.. it has done the same thing again..i've got no idea but i won't try for a third time. I think we should wait for the official releases

There is a new beta of Redsn0w available that is compatible with the latest iOS 4 release. Just jailbroke my iPhone 3G and everything is runnign well, including multi-tasking. There is a slight lag, but it won't be much of an issue unless you're a power user.

Me too. I'm actually suprised with my speed.. there's definitely an increase since 3.1.2.
I get Cydia installed and have even gotten Cydia to install all the recommended upgrades. Once I add a source, it gets stuck on downloading packages. I left it for an hour and gave up.

Can you get all of the 3GS features on the 3G using redsn0w? Like screen rotate etc?
You're not the only one. It's doing it to me aswell and i think it's just a beta-bug. After 5 mins i've been exiting the app, closing it through multitasking then re-opening Cydia. The sources are there then

Didn't work for me for some reason. I'm getting 'Unable to verify specified firmware in redsn0w. I'm using the 2nd beta of redsn0w though, I wonder if that has anything to do with it.
Just to clarify, even though I haven't posted on here about it, I am by no means new to jailbreaking, I have jailbroken since the 1st iPhone.
Anyone have any ideas?
Trying that now, but I had 8A923, I'm now downloading 8A230 to see if it works.
