I have a ‘lowly’ M1 but it more than fast enough for me.
Pairing a $700 mini with a $1600 display seems a bit crazy but, there’s no other 5K display on the market.

Plus, unlike an iMac, this display can grow with your needs down the road if you eventually upgrade to a Studio Mac.

Anyone else considering this set-up?

If I had known Apple was going to release this thing I might’ve kept my Mac mini.

No other 5K displays? The LG ultrafine 5K display is 5K.
Perhaps consider buying a used 5K LG ultrafine. The market is going to see a lot of them once people get their studio display in.

Yeah I know there’s the LG, but it’s rather ugly.

I’m also thinking long term, with A13, ultra wide webcam, and likely better speakers as well, I think the Studio Display might be the better buy anyway.

I have the M1 Mac mini with the LG Ultrafine 5K. Absolutely no need for me, and no desire, for the Studio Display. I do not need, or want, a better webcam or better sound. So, no "upgrade" for me.

But if I were to buy the M1 mini today, it would be at least a question. Here in Germany, the LG 5K is available (new!) for around 1.400 Euro. The Studio Display with nanotexture (less glare, hopefully) and VESA would be 2.000, plus a VESA stand (that minimal height adjustment of the Studio Display, for 460 Euros, sounds like a joke to me).

Plus 1.000 for an original Apple Display? Still, I don't think so. The price I payed for the LG 5K was more I would usually spend but I like high resolutions, and this is a good display.

Yes, crazy the display costs over 2x of the Mini!

I am ordering the Studio display for my M1 Mini (base) that I love using every day.
It will replace my 12 year old 27" Thunderbolt display w/ USB-C dongle.

The only issue might be that my M1 Mini is running Big Sur which is stable but the display says it requires Monterey ??

Briefly, I'll say "Yes" I'm interested.

I've been in the process (for too long) of trying to transition off of my old Cheesegrater, for which I picked up a mini last fall to address most of the mundane stuff ... its currently running on a borrowed UHD display, so I've been kicking around buying a proper display ... was thinking of a 4K, but a 5K would work too.

With yesterday's announcements, what I'm deliberating now is to pick up the Apple (5K) Studio Display this year, and then give Apple another 9-15 months to make sure that the M1 Max & MacOS bugs are settled out, then plop down $2K for a Studio ... might depend on if I can convince my brother to buy a used Mini from me to replace his slow slug of a Fusion-drive equipped 24" Intel iMac <g>.

I don’t think you’re the intended customer. If you already have an LG 5K display it would be silly to buy this because it’s not really an upgrade. If you wanted to upgrade it would be the 6K Pro Display XDR

I ordered the Studio Display last night. It will be pair with the 27" iMac primarily and replace the LG 4K display. It would be nice if there's a gigabit Ethernet port on the display, like the original Thunderbolt Display did. I think the nicer webcam and great set of speakers have an edge over other monitors.

Not really. Consider a good display an investment you will benefit from for years to come and possibly keep longer than the computer it's connected to. The first LCD monitor I ever bought (in February 2003) cost about as much as the Studio Display does (adjusted for inflation), and it served me well for seven and a half years. And I didn't replace it because it broke or anything but because I wanted a substantially bigger, higher-resolution and brighter screen in October 2010.

Ordered the Studio display but changed my mind about the dual monitor setup.

Instead of keeping the 4K Samsung display, I will keep the Apple 27" Thunderbolt display alongside the Studio display.

I find the TB display has very good text editing font/resolution compared to the 4K which has less focused text resolution.

So my M1 Mini will sport 2 Apple displays from 2 different generations: 2022 Studio Display + 2011 Thunderbolt display.

It’s 219 ppi, so text rendering will be perfect at the pixel-perfect “Looks like 2560×1440” setting. I have a 27” 5K monitor so… I know what I’m talking about :)
Great news, thanks! I am very excited to see this monitor in person. I am 100% in love with my M1 Mini.
