Just wondering what people here train in. I train in Aikido and love it. I've tried Taekwondo and American Kenpo. I enjoyed both, but feel that I settled on Aikido.

Former student here. I too studied Aikido, I was a blue belt when I left. My father is going to be taking his Black Belt test soon (Aikido also). I can't wait for that.

Before knee, hip and foot problems got the better of me I used to do Go-Kan-Ryu karate. I got up to blue belt

Hello,

I'm currently an active student in Aikido (follower of M. Fujita Shihan and of the late P. Bacas Sensei).
1st Dan (black belt) since 2004, I'm starting my preparation year now, for the 2nd Dan exam in february 2008.
I've also been giving lessons, more or less regularly, during the last 4 years - which is a big part of the learning process of Aikido.

I appreciate martial arts, but I do prefer Aikido, for personal reasons. The focus on harmony, mostly, within one self and between partners.

If you happen to come to the Netherlands and want to train with us, you're most welcome :)
Hagu kumi dojo, The Hague
EPO Aikido Club, Rijswijk
Culturel Aikido Bond Nederland

...I actually know there are more Martial Arts students on this forum, the subject came once or twice on community discussions...

Maybe they are shy now ?

I practice Aikido in Vancouver and in southern Arizona depending on the school year. My mother is a yudansha—there's nothing better for family trouble than throwing/being thrown by your mom (and trying to keep an aiki mentality!).

Interesting that so many people here practice Aikido. It's a much higher ratio than is average.

It's always nice to meet Aikido families, it also makes BBQ's easier - nobody feels isolated when we start talking about Aikido...

Well, we buy Apple because we like the sleek (harmonious) designs and the comfortable (harmonious) OS... Maybe a pattern indeed ? :p

I've never even heard of aikido until this thread

I took Taikwondo but stopped a looong time ago.

My 4 year old son is asking to take karate, specifically - he wants to be a ninja :)

** on checking aikido, he has to wait until he's five but it looks great for kids. No tournaments or matches!

I'm pretty good with a bowstaff

hahaha if he wants to be a ninja (or learn the martial art that ninjas use) then he should not take karate, he should take ninjitsu...

Kids at my dojo seem to love it. The teachers make it very funny to train, and there is a lot of movement involved, kids love to run around...

:D maybe when he's a little older he can try that... 4 seems a little young for ninja training.

He does like to run around! I'll have to see what's available around here.

I took a class at my university in Wado-ryu. However, I didn't like the teacher. He thought he was the stuff. Anyways I would like to take either Tai Chi and also would like to do Caipoera. I think it's good to take a combination of styles.
