imitrex and the corner of my closet.

you should try some prescription meds if you haven't, some of them work rather well - not everyone is the exact same.

I have an Imigran script that seems to work so long as I take it when I feel them coming on - hard when the majority of them are there when I wake up in the morning. Makes me totally loopy afterwards but it's worth it to not have the pain.
How do you go with the imigran Chundles? I used to get horrible migraines when I slept awkwardly and got prescribed imigran. I found that they really knocked me out and gave me a feeling like cotton wool being touched all over my skin. Still better than the migraines though....

edit; imitrex and imigran appear to be the same thing. Anyone else get side effects?

Yep, feel like i'm all spongy and they really make me drowsy. Every now and then I'll feel fine but then I just seem to pass out again. Waaaay better than the pain though.

Just checked them out a pharmacology text and parasthaesia, fatigue, weakness, and drowsiness are common reactions. Interestingly so is jaw pain/pressure/tightness which is something i get as well.

When I first got them they weren't on the PBS, and I remember they were about $30 per tablet. I never hesitated once though when the pain was coming on - I could feel it creeping up behind my eyeballs :D.

So another vote for Imigran/Imitrex from me Rokem. Although be aware that although they work fantastically, you might not feel 100% from the tablets.

I found the side-effects of Imitrex/Imigran to be too much for me to take. It gave me a little relief but it made me so tense I wanted to crawl out of my own skin. All the "triptans" do that to me. Makes my migraines a real bother to treat.

I have anti-nausea (zofran, ODT) and opiates for the pain. I sit in the shower for 45 minutes or so and sometimes this helps.

Rokem. Your headaches occurring at a certain time of the day may be a sign of it being from either diet or caffeine intake. You may want to note that. Some people have odd triggers (eggs, chocolate, etc, google that)

Cluster headaches may be possible as well. (I am having deja vu about this, I could swear I've written this before in a migraine thread) They're really UNfun to treat.

I can't link it to anything, i tried going off caffeine for a month or two and they still persisted, I've changed my diet completely still peruses.

anyways I'm really pissed right now, it 4 here and I woke up at like 8, and lied in bed half conscience, til 1 so I'm really tired but head is killing me and I can't sleep.

Sometimes it's recommended to keep a food journal. Sounds lame but if it helps make a connection. However it seems you have tried so I won't persist on that point.
It's not always what you suspect. A lot of times the simple things get blown off.

Are you on any medication or working/living in an environment which may cause this? I got afternoon headaches from looking at CRT monitors for too long. (got a powerbook and a couple months on the headaches stopped and realized that was why. LCD didn't cause the eye fatigue.) Which brings me to this. Have you had your eyes checked recently? What about sinuses and allergies? Where does it hurt? Atmospheric pressure can play a huge role in this stuff sometimes as well. I got nasty headaches in the dry winter months when it was low pressure/about to rain.

Headaches suck, there's so many different varieties and so many different things that cause them. I've been through the wringer with them so I am compelled to try to help.

Just a few points I wanted to mention.

wow thanks for the help.
*hugs iBlue*

anyways,
my eyes haven't set sights on a crt for months.
I'll start a food journal, should also help with the other problems I'm having.
Eyes were checked about 6 months ago when I got a new pair of glasses. My headaches aren't choosy, as long as its in the afternoon they come, all year round, all weather.

I'm starting to identify this cycle when my migraines hit. First I'll see things, like little white dots, then I start to feel sleepy, then pain for the next hour to 3 days. If I can get 2 Excedrin migraine pills, and a diet coke, I'm set, else im screwed once this thing gets going.

I'm at 22 hours of pain and being up, and its to late to go to bed now, not that I could. my head is throbbing.

I get them all the time.....when I get them I sit up in my dark room(yes sit up, I can't lay down because it hurts more) and put the pillow over my head and try to clear my mind...even thoughts hurt.

Bless

<stuff, and not in the fun way>

Have you spoken to a doctor about any of this? Even if they can't narrow it down, (I'm such a pessimist) there may be a preventative measure (medication) which could help, at least in decreasing the frequency. In the meantime don't be afraid to look into unexpected places. Even things like TMJ issues (got a case of this myself thanks to braces as a teenager) or even spinal misalignment... there's all sorts of junk, unfortunately. I suppose this is where a good doctor would be helpful. Remember that not all doctors are created equal, so if you had rotten luck with one, no harm in trying another.

m'ee'graines

suffered for a while in my earlier days from what i thought where migraines. nothing worked.. did some research, actually used a library if you can believe it! (so i have no internet related sources). Anyhoo, it turns out that they were not migraines. even worse... i don't know why this information is not more readily available, esp. to doctors, seriously, i had to figure it out for myself. Look into 'Cluster Headaches'. As far as I know they are the worst of the worst, indescribable pain, with no known cure. migraine meds have no effect. Gri'm' and bear it. Stress, genetics, seasonal, mostly male, excruciating sweet pain. cheers(sardonically yours), vic.
P.s. :mad:even the thought of them can bring on twinges of pain, if you can believe it...

I get migraines. I take Topamax, but it doesn't seem to be working. But on thursday, I'm going to a headache specialist, instead of a neurologist. I have no idea if she's going to keep me on the Dopamax (a little not-very-funny joke there) onput me on something else.

I used to get horrible migrains during my GCSE's, but they're almost gone now. Haven't had one in months, and even before that I'd only get about 1 or 2 a month.
