Wasn't it supposed to be released this week?
Some blogger that had pestered Apple support about it. It doesn't get any more reliable than that.
You are joking right? (Honestly, hard to tell w/ that smiley. It should be a ). Apple is as secretive about when it plans on rolling out major fixes as it is the products themselves. The fix will roll out when Apple is read to ship. They won't give us any heads up. We'll get new firmware notification one day when we sync. That's when we will know.
Based on nothing but a gut instict I'd say there may be a minor x.x.1 update this Thursday or friday in advance of the international launch...
Didn't something similar happen with the first iPhone?
( first post from my iPad - amazed how quick I can type on the on screen keyboard, but then I'm used to my bluetooth apple keyboard which isn't a huge difference in size)
Since I am just now after almost two weeks starting to experience this problem, I'll ask since I don't know...has there been any information that is solid on this? Mine is doing it in landscape on occasion. Don't think I'm going to return it though, seems like a waste of time to re-set up a new one if most of the units have this same problem.
Yeah, I experience intermittent wifi issues myself. At first I thought it was because I was out of system RAM on my iPad.
So I would reboot it and the wifi works. Than I noticed it more the past couple of days even after I rebooted.
Weird? Maybe interference issues with my neighbor's wireless routers. I live in a single family home development. We each have around 0.3 lots but the wifi signal is so strong I can see 4 of my neighbor's wifi signals with the iPads wifi pre-N connection.
Maybe those homes have older 2.4 gz cordless phones (I know one of my neigbhors have the old 2.4 cordless phones) and that may cause the interference with the wifi signal. I experienced this a lot with my 27 iMac's wifi when we had our 2.4 gz cordless phone system. Than I unhooked the cordless system and my iMac's wifi signal programs disappeared.
Mines never dropped the signal or asked for the password but I always see the wifi icon flickering out of the corner of my eye. It's like it disappears then comes back but I've never lost the connection.
It only seems to do this at home on my AT&T wifi. When I tether to my Pre I have never seen it happen.
I've got 2 iPads (wife and myself) bought from different places. Both are 64GB wifi. Wife's iPad has no wifi issues in the next room. Mine does, drops down to 1 bar and disconnects. She has constant 4 bars.
I would imagine around the international launch, even if its ready to go. They would hold it back until launch, as many people buying a new ipad on the 28th will be thinking of jailbreaking, a new firmware update would at least get people thinking twice or waiting until that version is cracked?
I've got the wifi problem on my 64gb 3G. At my friends house, it connects for about an hour and then kicks me off and won't let me reconnect. Even after rebooting, just continuous "unable to conect" messages. At a local coffee shop it continuously boots me off but does let me reconnect.
At home, things are mostly fine with only the occasional disconnect. I'm debating whether I should wait for the software fix or exchange it while the white boxes contain new iPads.
I've been hoping this comes out with the International launch also. I'd also like to see the cache size on Safari increased substantially, but I don't see that happening. All in all though, the iPad has been a fairly solid build for a first release. Usually Apple products are buggy as hell with day zero software.
I too would like to see this resolved.
My wife's iPad (3rd) has the same weird issues, on an full network at home.
Heres a weird one for ya: Has anyone been on safari, MR, anything- and have iPad stop out of nowhere- having a BOX open saying "Connecting" then another "Connecting"; then back to business as usual.
happens about once - twice a day on hers.
Yes, this happens frequently on my iPad. Very frustrating.
What's it doing? Re-establishing a connection to the network it's already connected to?
Happens to me daily. I think it's just if you try and load a website at the exact moment the connection has dropped/is reestablishing. If you sit and watch the WiFi connections setting you can literally watch it blink on and off every 20-40 seconds. Happens on friends iPads too so I know it's not just me.
Yes, as far as I can tell that's what its doing. However, it also frequently forgets the password and completely disconnects. I already paid a visit to the genius bar where the guy told me that it was the fault of bad wifi networks and not the iPad. A typical, first level response from the Genius bar.
I may go back this weekend to have it looked at again. The problem has steadily gotten worse. However, if a software fix is forthcoming I'd prefer that option. My iPad is otherwise perfect and I don't want to get caught in a cycle where I continually get units with bad pixels or other problems.
This is the 3rd one. First 2 defective per Genius (video freeze) Wifi not working.
Funny, my network at home is nothing but don't even have any other pc equipment any longer. Like to see him run that above excuse by me, I shoot some photos for him/her. I am going to take this one back too and punt I think, not sure.
Mine constantly drops connection as well but never asks for my password again. I get the " connecting " window and it's always twice before it reconnects. Very annoying. This is my second iPad and the same problem. I sit 12 ft from my router and still it happens probably a dozen times a day.
Mine hasn't had those wifi problems that I can see. I don't have a router, I use my Mac Mini's 'internet sharing' feature, seems to work great. I've never been asked for the password except at first set up.
For the people that are losing connection umpteen times a day, have you tried removing all security and testing it on this basis?
I know you shouldnt have to, but Apple have also announced an issue with the wifi due to security models.
Would be a good test to rule out hardware issues?
They haven't given a release date yet but I would guess early June is likely.
I get the "connecting" frequently as well. I hope an update comes soon. I have not taken mine in because I knew so many were having the same issue, figured even if I replaced it would still be a problem.
We have two ipads at home, one a wifi and the other a 3G. The wifi one was dropping the connection after sleeping to the point of being unusable. But I switched the network from WEP to WPA and I did the brightness trick. The problem went away and has been fine ever since!!
I have been using old crappy WEP without any issues whatsoever.
