Thank goodness I didn't find one earlier this morning as I was definitely jogging! Just getting back into it and going to do a solid month of MAF low heart rate to get going again. It's pathetically slow, but it's supposed to work. I shall see.
Everything is better than nothing! Just keep pushing and enjoy!

Runners run, Joggers find dead bodies in parks. 😆

(A joke that stems from the fact that the media usually refers to them as "joggers" rather than "runners" in such grisly stories.)
This just made me a runner! Thank you 😃

First cold weather run with my Apple Watch. Typically with my Garmin, I wear it outside my long sleeve shirt but with the Apple Watch, the screen kept locking requiring me to enter in my passcode. Is there a way around this or is it just me?

I ran 20mi with the awu and my garmin forerunner on each wrist. The metrics was almost identical. Unfortunately the awu have trouble reading my heart rate because of my tattoo. I bypass that issue with the garmin by using a chest strap.

Turn OFF passcode. But just know that turning passcode OFF, your credit cards used for Apple Pay will be removed from your Apple Watch.

Will removing passcode remove Apple Pay cards completely? Or I have to re add the cards when I re add the passcode?

This is quite an annoyance as I too wear the (prev Garmin) watch outside my jacket during cold weather runs

Thank you! I actually have a h10 chest strap.

Yes, no problem to pair to your AW. I have a H10 also. Depending how old it is, it could be worth looking for a firmware update. I remember that they published an update some time ago that allowed for two bluetooth connections at the same time.

My H10 is not in use anymore, I bought the optical sensors (first OH1, then Verity Sense) from Polar, they work great. Not comparable to the watch based sensors that sometimes have erratic readings for me.

Unfortunately turning off passcode will remove your cards from the watch. Or more correctly, remove the ability to use it for payment.
I also use my Garmin to pay because of this.

Yes. The long sleeve running tops I have usually have a thumb loop so wearing it under the sleeve would be a pain
I have never felt comfortable using the thumb loop on my long sleeve running tops, just feels awkward.
But my daughter loves them and uses them all the time, and I know lots of people who do.
I know it is just me being odd!😂😂

What I do find an issue though when using long sleeve tops or a running jacket is that they can swipe the the display and pause or stop my run!
I have to remember to lock the display.
I find the same when walking the dog and wearing a long sleeve waterproof or coat, I need to lock the display.

Not really much of a problem as the crown can still scroll through stats but it caught me out a few times until I realised what was happening.

Does the Garmin payment work without a passcode on the watch?
No.
But it is much simpler. If you tapped the code once, you don't need to tap it again for hours.
And it's not necessary to unlock it every time you just want to use it for casual use. I find Apple Watch a little more tricky here. Although, it's not a huge problem. Actually I just ordered another Apple Watch Ultra 😬. Both with Ocean Band and Trail Loop.
I really can't stand that I love that watch...

Another watch? Do you have 2 Ultras? 😁
The first one for returned after reviewing it. I bought it with the intention of keeping it, but I wasn't convinced to splurge that amount of money when I have around 50 watches lying around. Although, after some serious rethinking, I found out that this watch does make all those small things that makes life a little bit more simple. And that is just enough to make my day a little bit better right now 🙂.
Should be mentioned that I always where two watches though, so i always keep a Garmin as my main workout watch.

I’m doing my first marathon next spring, I’m just not sure if the AW is up to the job. I have it in my head that a Fitbit is good for up to 5k training, AW good up to half marathon but for marathons, ultras etc Garmin is the way to go. Even the most basic Forerunner 45 will do better than an AW for the serious runner. What’s your thoughts? Yeah the new Ultra might change things but I’m using a SE and sure as hell wouldn’t pay £800+ for a Watch, the wife would put me out if I did.

It really depends on how you run and what you want.

The AW (not counting the Ultra) would be just fine for marathon runners who don't use their Watch to also listen to music while running, and who don't take an enormous amount of time to run the marathon. To me, a reasonable time to complete a marathon for, say, a mid-40s male who is no longer competitive would be under 4 hours (and that's kinda slow). In those kinds of condition, using an AW is probably ok. At that slow of a pace, marking laps/segments (if you want to) with the AW is ok -- it requires you to double tap the screen which when you're running fast is very hard to do.

If you are a much faster runner and would also like to mark segments along the way, I'm not sure the AW is a great choice simply because of the way it requires segments to be marked (double tapping screen).

The Ultra surpasses all these issues. I don't think it would suffer if you use it to run a 4 hour marathon, mark segments, and listen to music.

Just finished a marathon in 3.30 in Munich with my S7 with GPS and music on my AirPods Pro all the way. Not a problem and 20% battery left I think I had.

To call four hours slow is maybe pushing it a bit. A pretty ambitious time for many
