I really hated it until I decided to make it the only keyboard I write on. After getting used to it, I'm finding that I can type really fast with little effort. For me not having to bounce between different style keyboards really made the difference. My MacBook Pro Escape is the only computer I'm using and I'm delighted with it.

So I check the new tMBP yesterday, I was kind of impressed with the keyboard. Almost every reviewer hates on short travel keys and its supposed to be a negative.

When I tried it, the keys felt sold not wobbly, and while this might sound silly the shorter key travel makes you put less effort into typing.

Any one used it for long typing session? Can you tell me it gets better or worse?

Also, any one knows if there is any difference between the keyboard on macbook unibody 2008 and the 2015 MBP or is it exactly the same?
I love the brand new keyboard. I have fat fingers so I'd always mistype on big chiclet keys. I also love the clickiness, in a way it emulates a mechanical keyboard. You'll get used to it the longer you use it.

The way this thread is worded means that mostly those who agree with you would bother to comment.
Does people being happy with their purchase upset you? It sure seems like you are trying to bring your negativity about the MBP16 to every thread. Looks like you have a 2013 model. Why don't you just be happy with it? It's a great MBP and no one will thinks badly about it. If the new one is not for you, move on, and let people share their positive experiences. Btw, people who aren't happy about the keyboard don't own one or returned theirs already as they should.

The new keyboard is a hit for MOST actual owners.

I can actually type faster on it and so can my wife. Yes, it feels more mechanical with better feedback and not mush like the old one.

Some haters will pop in here, upset that Apple got the keyboard right...but they did. It helps make the whole user experience better because it feels so precise.

Poor guy...you're right...he's upset that the new machine is this good.

BTW...just set up a new Dell 4K with my 13" and it works flawlessly. I can run LR, PS and watch 4K Baywatch trailers all at once!

2012 MBA to a 2016 MBP 13": I love the new keyboard despite expecting to hate it based on early reviews.

The initial negative reviews make sense. Those reviewers really didn't take time to adapt. And some just stuck with their first impression to make a more clickable review.

The new keyboard is crazy good.

Well since it plays a 4k Baywatch trailer, what more can you ask for in life!

Oh, I do like my 2013 MacBook Pro.

Great keyboard. Lot of ports that I use. Upgradable SSD.

I do wish it has bigger display.

Oh yeah guys and girls who are making YouTube videos for a living suck because they don't agree with you.

Whether pwoolwr like it or not typing is a very subjective experience but I would easily say the Surfacebook has by far the best laptop keyboard, key travel, clickiness and volume have been absolutely nailed.

As someone who is used to Cherry MX black switches the new one feels like typing on glass for me period. Hope Apple is going to fix it with their 2017 version.

I really like the new 15, the keyboard has been a shocker for me. It's actually insanely good, and a really nice evolution on the 12" MacBook. Took me two days and now I'm completely addicted to it. One thing to note is that I love the Magic Keyboard. This feels a little like that but clickier...it's killer.

i don't like it as much as the older keyboard. It was cushiony and quiet. However, since I am keeping the laptop, I am trying to build a relationship with it. The only real problem that bothers me is how loud it sounds. I'm cool in my office, but in a meeting it is noticeable. Then I try and type quieter, which is when the errors start. That is a whole new set of muscles I need to develop. I'll give it time, it's not like it's going anywhere.

I like it. I really don't like keyboards that require a lot of force to press the keys. While I think, ideally, I would still prefer a little more key travel, I really like how easy it is to press the keys. Definitely not worried about the keyboard when I eventually upgrade.

I'm in the thumbs-down crowd. The new keyboard doesn't have enough travel and bottoms out too quickly, and feels like it's hitting a cement floor, causing my fingers to hurt. And damn, it's noisy!! After ten minutes of typing, I was done. Maybe I need to get my fingers to the gym??? The old keyboard, on the other hand, is nice and spongy and bounces back very quickly, and I like that. I'm typing this response on a 2015 Macbook Pro 15, and it suits me well. The perfect keyboard, in my opinion. But to each their own, I guess.

Didn't like it when I first got it, after a day or so it didn't bother me.

Then I had to use my old 2010 MBP and absolutely hate the keyboard on that now, it's quiet but it feels so wishy washy and spongey compared to the new one.

I'm a convert.

Wish I could buy a desktop version for the iMac! Takes some adjustment but once I stopped pounding on the keys and my fingers learned to sort of flow across, things got faster.

The new keyboard is incredibly awesome. Nice and clicky, almost like a mechanical one. The older version in comparison feels like typing on mushy rubber. The new one is very crisp and precise.

Anyone who hates it is entitled to their rage, but they are wrong, lol. Go back to mush-land I guess.

When I go back to my work Lenovo X250, it's a pretty painful typing experience...and I always thought Thinkpads had the best keyboards. Not anymore.

I took my new MBP into first ever meeting with a client yesterday and had to take some pretty extensive notes. At one point as I was typing furiously, one of our clients sitting on the other end of the table looked at me and said "That keyboard is LOUD!".

It was by accident that the old and new macbooks were next to each other and I switched typing from one to the other. I think most people hate on it because they are used to the deep press method, and once they use it, it feels like typing on a non-movable brick in comparison. This leads most to have a bad impression. In this case, it probably is "You are typing wrong" . As many people mentioned already, after sometime using it they actually prefer it as hey adapt to it.

I wouldn't be surprised if these would be the keyboards of the future, the question remains to be answered, do people like mechanical keyboards for the long travel or the feedback?

How much RAM?
I am guessing the 2015 can do just the same since the specs are almost the same.

many people complain about the loud keyboard, I am sure Apple will adjust this in future releases. Its just how it is with new designs, it continues to evolve into something better and flaw free.

My wife, capable of over 75 WPM, said it perfectly.

Anyone can learn to use this keyboard and when they do, they'll type faster.

She's a bit of a nut about keyboards, hitting crazy speeds on split designs.

Looks like the VAST majority (who actually had time to use it) now prefers it. Anytime you make this many changes, there will be a small group of angry disenchanted users. Most quietly convert and generally realize they were wrong or at least overreacting.

A few have legitimate issues and that's part of life. A laptop, or indeed ANY product, can not be perfect for everyone. But I do think that the new MacBooks come closest so far. This new MacBook does more "right" than anything previously available.

I like it decently. Just a bit too noisy I think, though mainly the middle is a bit louder. I have already learned to not type as hard in just a few hours.

Absolutely nailed on the Surface Book`s Keyboard, only portable that may be marginally better is Lenovo`s X1 Carbon, even then maybe not. Whoever designed this aspect of both portables really understands those of us that need to use them for extended periods.

I also have a 2015 rMB and have steadily come to dislike it`s short travel keyboard, although I initially got on with it. 2016 MBP seems a little better, however not by much. Not sure if Apple is just trying to be different or thin for the sake of thinner is getting out of control.

Surface Book`s keys have every bit the stability of the new Mac`s with decent throw, beautifully weighted and superb feedback. Best keyboard of any Mac portable I have owned is the 2012 15" Retina, the later ones just seem to be cheaper...

Mechanical keyboards are not the same. The feedback, both physical and audio, of a mechanical keyboard is determined by the type of switches used. Cherry MX Black and Blue move up and down quietly and tend to be stiffer and long travel so no accidental keypresses during gaming. MX Brown is also pretty quiet, but takes a lighter touch and has a slightly shorter travel. MX Blue is clacky and medium travel and you can feel (there is a bump) when you have activated the switch.

To make things more complex, a lot of mechanical keyboards use multiple switch types, including MX types not listed above, for different keys. And then you can customize your mechanic keyboards with different switches, but that is the road to bliss, or madness...

I prefer MX Brown and their lower noise and medium travel, which is considerably longer than the 15 MacBook Pro and slightly louder in sound, and much quieter and much longer than the 2016 MacBook Pro.

I fricken love it.

Keyboards are so personal, but this one's better than any other laptop keyboard I've used, for my crappy inaccurate clumsy hands.

Of course there are zillions of desktop keyboards I prefer. But that's the nature of the beast.

Just got mine Saturday, and really like the keyboard. I type fast, but seem to be faster on this new keyboard. I don't mind the sound at all. I have nothing bad to say about the keyboard.
