Something as simple as mapping my NAS onto the desktop takes 3 clicks on Windows 7. On OSX? Can't even count the number of steps it took.

In Finder:

CMD-K (or select "Connect to server..." in menu)

type smb://server/share

Press OK

Enter username/password

Done.

Once you enter the smb:// blah stuff once, it will remember it and you can select it form the list next time.

That reminds me

Where the hell is native support for ssh in os x - come on apple!

I don't get to appreciate the lovely looking os as my day is spent using full screen vim :D

Put Windows on the MBA. Works perfectly, even the keyboard lights are fine. The basic multitouch gestures (two finger scroll, right click, tap to click etc) are supported, as is the resolution. Have to get used to Ctrl on Mac being Ctrl on Windows - I keep hitting the Command key. The partition is 25GB, with 8.7GB free.

Thanks for the info! :p

I'll prob put windows on my mba. I'll first have to figure out which software I'd want on my windows.

oh I hear you. I had to adjust samba configuration on my file server to get shares to work the way I wanted. In Windows it's as simple as mapping a network path. But then I just started using OS X a couple of days ago so I'm probably missing something.

Like the OP I'm using Windows 7 on my primary machine and the MBA as a secondary machine. A lot of it is quite nice - I really like the touch pad gestures. The unix foundation has significant power user appeal as well. I'm having trouble adjusting to OS X's font rendering. It hurts my eyes a little compared to ClearType of Windows.

SMB was incredibly slow. It would take minutes to open a folder and list the files. Had to ditch SMB and make an NFS mount.

How was any of that better than Windows 7's 3 clicks?

Ive been using windows my whole life. Was an avid pc builder when I was in high school....which was when I built my last pc. Ive upgraded different things over the past 8 years or so, but I think I'm finally due for a new computer. Using the excuse of graduating college/going to grad school as my excuse!

I've been recently running the new Ubuntu on a laptop I fixed up (someone gave it to me and thought it was broke...just needed a new keyboard! crazy how you can salvage laptops). But I have been loving the new interface of Ubuntu!

Finally excited to get on a Mac. Mainly for GarageBand! I'm also pumped for the SSD. The thought of spending so much money on a computer makes me sick, but I plan on getting many years and use out of it.

Think I'm gonna take the plunge tomorrow. Cant wait!

Did you have the make the transition of c/c++ to obj-c or anything? What languges did you use with VS and what languages are you using now in xcode?

I'm coming from a c++ background and now I'm learning obj-c. Syntax is confusing me. Trying to see if anyone who has made the transtion had some tips.

I did/do VB:)rolleyes:) in VS. Syntax is weird in obj-c since everything is written out in full words... not the biggest fan of that, but I guess VB is very similar in that sense. Also the concept of pretty much all variables being objects was a little weird at first.

The transition really was just syntax, as long as you understand OOP you'll pick it up pretty quick. I highly recommend this guy for tutorials, I really like his stuff. (Tutorial is shot using xcode 3.4 though)

I was a Microsoft fanboy. Anyone remember Windows 1.0? This was before Windows 286. It came bundled with a game I played on my amber screen PC. But I digress...

I'm not a Microsoft fanboy anymore. I'm slowly evolving into a Machead... :apple:

Another MS fanboy. I absolutely love Windows 7, couldn't stand Vista, though. My HP crashed over the weekend (and I still haven't been able to figure out the problem), so it gave me the excuse I needed to get the MBA.

I had an iPad 2 that got stolen last month, and I was debating whether to get another one or this. I absolutely love the MBA. I love the gestures, and the touchpad is awesome.

I'm mainly a Windows guy myself. I do a lot of PHP programming on my Windows 7 box, but wanted something portable to do light coding and take care of my sites when on the go.

So, my main is a Windows 7 and my portable is a 11" MBA.

So far I'm loving lion on a notebook, but don't think I would on a desktop.
