My wife and I recently had our first baby on January 24, 2015. As a new father, I am PUMPED for the Apple Watch...I figured I'd create a post about it since it I have not seen this mentioned yet.

I never realized how attached I'd become to the iPhone until my little guy arrived. I took it for granted that I could easily pull my phone out of my pocket or glance at it on the table sitting next to me whenever I received a notification. Now with a baby, keeping tabs on my phone has become secondary since I am always walking around with the baby.

Reasons why I am looking forward to using the watch:
-I will now be able to easily check a notification while feeding/carrying the baby.

-I will not have to worry about carrying the phone around with me all over the house.

-I will not miss any notifications from my wife during the day about the little man in case something comes up.

-Using "Hey Siri" will be a life saver while carrying around a baby

-We use a DropCam as a baby monitor, and I'm hoping they release an Apple Watch App to keep tabs easily.

-AND my most awaited feature is the activity/workout implementation. Let's just say I packed on some unwanted pounds while the wifey was pregnant...

Any other parents have great ideas for the Apple Watch?

5 month old at home here. We each got one(ss white sport band, ss black sport band). Looking forward to much of what you stated, especially the monitor. Hue lights and home automation with home kit should be fun. Might get me to setup the house(garage door, rest of the lights, thermostat. Can't wait until Friday!

These are all great points! I have a little girl due on Saturday, too bad I bought my wife and I Skagen watches for a New Parent gift. Consolation, her's has a rose gold Milanase band. Maybe can squeeze one of these in the summer budget...

Just wait until baby is old to grab for things. Mine is obsessed with my iPhone so I can never have it near me. Can't wait to get my watch so that I can still read texts and emails while I'm chasing him around the house! :p

My little guy is 16 months (don't blink, time flies) and is obsessed with picking up all of our electronics and carrying them around the house. It'll be nice to put my phone up and not have to chase him around when were at home.

Also guys, let me make a recommendation. Baby carriers(Tula or Ergo) are life savers for mommy and daddy. My kiddo now brings me ours so he can have cuddles in it and it is a lifesaver at dinner time when he wants attention and I need to cook.

Awesome! Congrats. My wife didn't want one at first so she told me not to preorder one for her. She tagged along to my try on appointment and is now regretting her decision not to preorder...

Good points on the other added bits of functionality! I look forward to the app progression.

Oh wow! Saturday is coming up fast! Best of luck to your wife and enjoy the moment! The Skagen watches were an excellent choice, they will be something to enjoy for years to come :)

My girl just turned 2 this weekend, but still feel like a new parent. My only concern is the watch turning on when I am putting her to bed (or trying to), and lighting up her room.

And yes kids love to grab watches

My 2 month old slept later than he ever does on pre order night. It's why I'm in the mid May crowd. I blame the baby. Except he's so cute I immediately forgive him

My 21 month old (who already says mama phone and dada phone) will surely rip it off my wrist.

Same here, but I have 5 month old twin girls. Quick glances will be nice. Let's not forget the water resistant part as well. I keep my phone at a distance due to the exorcism pukes!!

i have a 3 yr old son, who's constantly on the disney app on my phone, i can't wait to have my watch so he can play with it all he likes and i can still reply/send text and get calls :):D

Great points!!! I forgot about kiddos wanting to pickup phones and other electronics. My niece smashed my sisters iPhone on the ground and destroyed it so being able to keep the phone in a safe place and the watch on my wrist will be a winning combination.

Thanks for the recommendations Plasticstars!

The Hey Siri thing will be incredible if it works as advertised. I saw in one review they had trouble getting it to work most of the time.

One more thing, as a new parent myself, I can't recommend enough the voice commands on an Xbox One. Controlling the TV or Netflix or another app with your voice while holding/playing with a baby is so useful.

Not a new parent, but I have a 12, 9 and 2 year old. I'm hoping by having only important notifications tapping me on the wrist will stop my compulsion for checking my phone all the time, just in case. I want to be a better example to my kids.

Not a new parent but I am hoping Dropcam is updated for Apple Watch. A notification with a pic of the motion detected would be great.

Siri seems to be hit or miss for some people. I use it all the time without any issues but my wife seems to have the hardest time.

Voice commands will certainly be getting more and more popular. I had forgotten about that feature on the Xbox One. I can see how useful that would be.

I have an 8 month old that I am breastfeeding. I think it would be great if the app we use to track her feedings, sleep, and diapers would update for the Apple Watch. That would make life a lot easier instead of having to carry the phone everywhere.

I am looking forward to being able to leaving my phone on my nightstand because my little one thinks it is something to gum all day!! The fitness aspect will be a great help to get back to my pre-baby weight too.

I don't have kids, but they sure like shiny things. Having a color touch screen should make them more fun. I wonder if they tested the watch with baby saliva. :)

Wait to you have 2 kids. I have a 2.5 year old and a 3 month old and the watch will help when my hands are full and of course not staring at my phone when they see it.

I have a 5yrs old girl and a 4 months old boy.

My wife never wear any watch, but she ask for this one because she know it will be so much easier to check msg /answer calls/ etc via the watch.

Also, we pre order an extra one for the daughter. It's an extra communication channel for us. We can call her easily by just tapping the watch, rather than shouting at home which will alert the small one. Of course, she also enjoy to draw us some simple picture, or sent us her heart beat.

Yeah, I can't tell you how many times I've said the phrase "Xbox, watch Disney Junior" over the past year.

As basic as it sounds, one of the things I'm most looking forward to with the Apple Watch are the lists app. Grocery shopping with a 1 year old and having to push the cart/make sure they're ok/handle iPhone for grocery list is challenging. I don't think it supports it now, but I hope at some point in the near future Apple allows you to temporarily "stick" an app to the home screen so when you bring your wrist up you can see the app instead of the watch face. Having to re-open the lists app every time I put the Watch to sleep by lowering my wrist will not make for an optimal user experience.

Great idea. Although my daughter moves so much in her sleep the haptic feedback engine might wear out from all the notifications :D

Congratulations! I have a 7 week old girl and have also been realising different times when the watch will be useful - I.e. When I have hands full!

I do worry about the watch ringing right by her head though when I holding her!

As the parent of a very active 1.5 year old little boy i am looking forward to this very much. My kid has a few games he likes to play on mine and his mothers iphone 6 plus'. Usually he is watching a movie or TV show on them too.

With this we can still keep track of our notifications and important messages without being tethered to our phones. Plus we can use the "ping iPhone" feature to figure out where the little guy has stashed our phone when he runs off with it!

Yes! Exactly this. Being able to access notifications and important info without my phone while feeding/rocking/carrying/playing with the little one is going to be a huge part of the use-case for the :apple:watch. She is having a big positive impact already on reducing the amount of time I spend with a phone in my hand - the watch will help further, I hope.
