My wife and I recently had our first baby on January 24, 2015. As a new father, I am PUMPED for the Apple Watch...I figured I'd create a post about it since it I have not seen this mentioned yet.

I never realized how attached I'd become to the iPhone until my little guy arrived. I took it for granted that I could easily pull my phone out of my pocket or glance at it on the table sitting next to me whenever I received a notification. Now with a baby, keeping tabs on my phone has become secondary since I am always walking around with the baby.

Reasons why I am looking forward to using the watch:
-I will now be able to easily check a notification while feeding/carrying the baby.

-I will not have to worry about carrying the phone around with me all over the house.

-I will not miss any notifications from my wife during the day about the little man in case something comes up.

-Using "Hey Siri" will be a life saver while carrying around a baby

-We use a DropCam as a baby monitor, and I'm hoping they release an Apple Watch App to keep tabs easily.

-AND my most awaited feature is the activity/workout implementation. Let's just say I packed on some unwanted pounds while the wifey was pregnant...

Any other parents have great ideas for the Apple Watch?

Congrats!

I didn't even think about this. We have #3 due in about 3 weeks (a girl), and yes it will be very handy for all the reasons you mentioned. The worst (or best) is when your phone buzzes from your pocket when they've *just* fallen asleep on your lap.

I'm surprised this topic didn't come up sooner, considering this forum is full of a bunch of babies.

Congrats to bigred7078 and all the other new parents!

We have an 8 month old who loves to grab my g-shock watch especially when he's getting changed. I'm sure he's gonna be tugging on the apple watch as hard as he can. All of the reasons in this thread and I'm sure many more will become incredibly useful with the baby.

Be careful overdoing it with the "Hey Siri" or your baby will think that's his name :p

I have a 9 year old, almost 4 year old and an 18 month old.

It will be extremely valuable to you, I guarantee it. I wish I had one all along :)

I have a 5yrs old girl and a 4 months old boy.

My wife never wear any watch, but she ask for this one because she know it will be so much easier to check msg /answer calls/ etc via the watch.

Also, we pre order an extra one for the daughter. It's an extra communication channel for us. We can call her easily by just tapping the watch, rather than shouting at home which will alert the small one. Of course, she also enjoy to draw us some simple picture, or sent us her heart beat.

Wow. I thought my four year old was spoiled with my ipad, ugh-hum, his ipad mini. ☺ how about walking over and speaking rather than shouting?

My wife and I are extremely excited to get a Apple Watches. As others have pointed out, our 16 month old son is obsessed with electronics. He knows how to turn on/off every device he can reach. He knows swipe right and home buttons, etc. Keeping our phones away from him while still getting updates will be great. I also tend to miss more calls from my wife than I would like, so I'm looking forward to the wrist notifications. I am also looking forward to using the Apple Watch at Disneyland this June. I can't think of a better use case with ApplePay, Hotel Key, Boarding Passes, High Noise, Reservations, Time Checks, etc. all possible (some may not be available right after launch though).

We did teach her how to handle electronic devices. I can leave my iPad, iPhone, Xbox controller at the place that she can reach easily, and never have any problem. We trust her, and she always keep her promise.

Anyway, keep walking up and down stairs is not fun at all. That's why we believe that the watch will help. Also, it's an interesting way to communicate with her. If we believe it's better to go down stairs to talk to her, of course we will. But sometimes is much easier to call her via the watch and ask her to come up. I wish the watch will bring us closer, just an extra way to communicate.

I have an 8 month old that I am breastfeeding. I think it would be great if the app we use to track her feedings, sleep, and diapers would update for the Apple Watch. That would make life a lot easier instead of having to carry the phone everywhere.

I am looking forward to being able to leaving my phone on my nightstand because my little one thinks it is something to gum all day!! The fitness aspect will be a great help to get back to my pre-baby weight too.

Hi, I am an independent developer. I created an app for the Apple Watch to track breastfeeding, bottle feeding, diaper changes, and reminders. I hope you will try it out and let me know what you think.

You can search for "Baby Loggy" in the App Store.

Hi, all. I thought I would resurrect this thread as an update to one why I originally wanted the Apple Watch.

Original reasons why I am looking forward to using the watch:
-I will now be able to easily check a notification while feeding/carrying the baby.
This functionality has turned out to be more useful than I originally anticipated. I can easily check my watch for an incoming message compared to fumbling around to grab my phone when I'm holding the baby. This allows me to focus on what's important (taking care of the kiddo) instead of constantly grabbing my phone to see what that last notification was all about.

-I will not have to worry about carrying the phone around with me all over the house.
I have grown to absolutely love this feature. Since we had a baby, I constantly leave my phone in random places so it tends to not be on me when I need it. Now that I have the Apple Watch, I no longer need to worry about not having my phone on me while I'm upstairs changing the baby.

I have also answered countless important phone calls on my watch that I would have missed without it. I can carry the baby around or be sitting in the chair feeding the little guy and still be talking through the watch. This has been a big win for me.

One of the best features has been still having access to iMessage even if my phone does while I am at home. My favorite uncovered feature has been pinging my phone. Since I tend to leave my phone in random places at home, I can ping it and easily find it (even in the dark since if you press and hold the button, your phone will make noise and the LED will flash).

-I will not miss any notifications from my wife during the day about the little man in case something comes up.
Since I work all day, my wife has either been sending me pictures/videos of our baby or important doctor visit updates and I never miss anything! Without the watch, I would always miss notifications at work because I could never feel the vibrate alerts. Now with the watch I get discrete haptic notifications and I can easily check them at any time.

-Using "Hey Siri" will be a life saver while carrying around a baby
I also use "Hey Siri" constantly to send messages, to open apps, to ask questions, etc. Those of you with a baby know that you always have your hands full (holding the baby, carrying diaper bags, feeding, changing, washing bottles, doing chores, etc) and the Apple Watch has been the perfect solution.

-We use a DropCam as a baby monitor, and I'm hoping they release an Apple Watch App to keep tabs easily.
This is one part that has left me a little disappointed. Obviously the first OS did not offer native video solutions so I assume this is why an Apple Watch app was never released. Hopefully OS2 allowing native apps and video will allow me to easily view a live stream from my DropCam. I currently use the Drip app which allows me to see stills from the drop cam that is updated every 3 seconds. This has been nice to see on the watch but its not quite ideal. Again, my fingers are crossed for a solution once OS2 is released.

Love, love, love this feature. My wife and I have become competitive to complete our rings. It is super motivating and has actually been fun. We tend to spend less time in front of the TV and get the baby out and about for a walk around the neighborhood.

-Bonus: My little guy LOVES playing with the watch. Whenever I hold him he looks to my wrist to tap the screen and watch it turn on. It keeps him entertained :)

Has the Apple Watch been a similar great experience for other parents? I'm curious to know your thoughts and other ways you may use your watch for your parenting routine now that it has been several months.

Little one coming in a couple months and I am definitely going to utilize a lot of these efficiencies when she gets here. Especially replying to texts and calls directly on my watch as my phone will not be anywhere to be found most likely.
