is it me.. or does asking the phone what time it is take way longer than just looking at the phone?

not if your phone is in your zipped pocket whilst you have your handsfree kit plugged in...
 
i honestly forgot the phone even had this feature. i have never once used it. it's more of a hassle than actually performing the function on the phone itself.
