Let me explain as I know there are and have read many posts on syncing and Outlook, etc.

For thos of us who are on Exhange at work we do have the option of creating the Exhange account on the iPhone, which is nice but that doesn't sync with the Cloud.

Outlook without exhange uses a local PST data file, which iTunes and MM can "see" and parse for email, Calnder and Conacts. However, when on Exchange the local file is a OST file which maintains the sync between the PC and Exchange server. It essentially contains the same data as a PST would.

So I'm wondering if this may be contributing to the breakdown of syncing Outlook (on Exchange) and MM? I ask because I can sync up fine from home, but not from work - and all the other posts about Outlook don't seem to nail down whether they're on Exchange or not.

Outlook on Exchange doesn't synch

I am on Exchange using "ost" files and synch does not work with mm. I am also waiting for somebody to figure this out

I spent most of yesterday working on this with Apple for them to finally ask a "specialist" who said that a "data class" can only sync with one service. So it syncs with Exchange and therefore can't sync with Mobile Me.

I asked if it would be possible to have my phone sync with Mobile Me for my home stuff and use iTunes and dock cable for syncing my work calendar and was told the iPhone can only sync with Mobile Me OR iTunes but NOT both.

The solution I have found (not fully implemented yet, so I can't guaruntee, but I have a friend who says he's using it) is to use Plaxo (http://www.plaxo.com/) to sync my Outlook calendar with iCal on my macbook, then use Mobile Me to sync the combined calendar to the iPhone. Plaxo is free.

I was told by support that they are "compiling customer concerns" to take to management or something like that.

iTunes could sync via a cable to outlook with exchange just fine, so obviously the "specialist" is wrong. It shouldn't matter if the sync program is uploading to the cloud or a cable, it IS able to access outook. There are also many other examples of sync software for outlook on exchage that works fine. The blackberry redirector (provided for users without a BES server) is one example.

I'll look into plaxo.

I would tend to agree here. The cable connect works just fine with Outlook on Exchange and the iPhone (even tho I had problems with iTunes seeing my Contact Folders before the 7.7 update).

And it is true that you can't use both methods - swithcing from cable sync to MM and back erases iPhone data and starts over - although creative implemenation of this could be a viable but inefficient workaround.

Furthermore, I was able to get partial data transfer which means there is a connection of some sort. For example, MM would create a folder or Calendar to match what was in Outlook, but would ony transfer one of the items.

The guy in this post has both running:

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/524267/

I believe that poster was referring to having both a MM account and Exchange account running on the iPhone at the same time. That does work, as that's what I have going presently.

What I am talking about here is syncing MM to an Outlook client that is configured to run on Exchange vs. syncing MM to Outlook that uses Local data files (personal folders) and internet mail.

Maybe this is a option for you. At my small company we use Google Calendars as a way to share all of our calendars. I use "SyncMyCal.com" applicaton (free or $25 pro version) to Sync my Outlook Calendars with my Google Calendars. Maybe you could setup Google Calendars and then Sync your work Outlook Calendar with it and then do the same at home. Then Sync Outlook Calendar with MM.

So if that service is able to sync to Outlook, then that debunks that theory that it's impossible to sync to a source that is already syncing to another source.

Just looked. Plaxo doesn't sync the calendar.

Yes it does. I'm using it in exactly the way described - but actually I'm thinking about ditching mobileme, because syncing would require both computers to be on and sync working, and I can't be @rsed. So I'll just use Plaxo, which does work brilliantly, and itunes to sync to the phone a few times a day, and hope that gmail goes push soon.
