Don't forget Aurorafox doesn't fit the OP's requirement of a still updated PowerPC browser as its last update was in February and it appears to be dead.
@ all: for the future, could we keep adding "10.4" or "10.5" behind the browser name or anything (applications, firmware) we are talking about. Some have said it is for 10.5, but some not. It makes it a bit easier, when you don't have to google first, if it works for which OS (because some download pages do not tell, they even don't differentiate between Intel and PPC).
I'm being not to strict on that, but it is a suggestion.
(...) They have games for when kids get finished with something early or for a reward or that sort of thing. It's up to the teacher in the individual room what the kids can do on them. (...)
side note: from a pedagogic standpoint very questionable, but I guess one can have different opinions on that.
Too bad you know nothing about the situation or the way it is used. Does it really matter? They are little kids... when we want to let them play educational games when its 10 degrees outside and they cant go outside for recess I just wanted it to work properly. Honestly if this is THAT a big deal it's no wonder America is doing so poorly in public education. We are teaching the kids not imprisoning them. It's not like the kids can just do whatever they want and it's not like the teachers have nobody overlooking them. I've been told because of the ****** support from Apple and Adobe that this is not possible to improve the performance so I suppose there isn't another option.
Apple won't support you because it's been at least seven years since the Intel transition. PowerPC Mac of which your G5s are a part of is dead. OS X Leopard 10.5, the max your G5s could ever use is long since dead too.
The best you can hope for is to mitigate issues. I totally get where you are coming from because my mom is a teacher and so is my sister. So you have to stay within the boundaries that the school sets.
You can upgrade RAM and use less resource intensive browsers (but less secure) such as Sunrise, which is webkit or maybe iCab or OmniWeb. But again, those browsers are not being updated.
Unfortunately there's nothing else to be done. There are workarounds, but if you have to stay within your schools boundaries (such as using a web browser and not say, MacTubes) then there isn't really anything that can be done.
I misunderstood you. You said "reward". You did not say, that they play educational games as a compensation for stuff that can't be done at the moment, which is very different in making a deal with an 8-year old like "if you will do your task, you will be allowed to play on the computer" (while all the others are still doing their task). Like giving a reward for something which is totally normal and has to be done anyway (a matter of course, so to say, which I do not find worth rewarding). But I know teachers that think that way, that you have to reward every single action.Too bad you know nothing about the situation or the way it is used. Does it really matter? The only thing I am wondering about anymore honestly is flash and HTML5. Is it normal for them to be this slow? On PCs just as old it runs much more smoothly. Websites like iCloud play animations ridiculously slowly. Should I just expect this?
flash is fast. I can run flash in HD 720p on this powerbook. Using xbmc or vlc
I think the fault is with the webplayer.
You want fast animation on icloud use webkit for leopard 537.69 browser

Sorry, I did not want to destroy your thread.
I will try it. What do you mean a fault with the webplayer? I have never once had a good experience with flash on any of these powerpc macs on any web browser. I am using the latest version of flash for PowerPC or 10_1r102_64 whatever that nuts filename even means.
The problem with Flash games is Flash. It doesn't work nor has ever worked well on PowerPC Macs. Even when it was still being updated for PowerPC, it just isn't very good.
That's what I thought, but why are there multiple people telling me I shouldn't be experiencing this?![]()
Not sure. Could you post some links to some of the games that are slow running? I think with iCloud, the latest unstable Leopard Webkit works best.
It's nothing in particular. Everything including videos is laggy in flash. One that's notable is poptropica. Starfall for the k-2 computers seems to run usably but it is very basic and still has noticeable lag.
