Hi,

I just bought a 2011 15" Macbook pro (Model MC721LL/A). Basically its the Macbook model that was introduced in Spring 2011. I need to obtain a external monitor for it and was looking at the Dell U2711.

Normally I would assume it would work fine, but did a google search and saw a few complaints (Mostly from 2010).

Any reason to believe this won't work? Do I need to use a Display port cable or purchase a DisplayPort<->Dual Link DVI cable?

Thanks

Either method will work.

I'm using the U2711 with 2011 13" mbp with no problems whatsoever (miniDP to DP adapter, found on ebay for about 8 bucks).

unless you need the other ports of the U2711, why not spring for the thunderbolt display? The cost is almost the same and will give you an entire docking station for your MBP plus charge it. Thats what I plan to do when I get my 2012 MBP.

Just can't get used to the glossy display otherwise I would consider the Thunderbolt.

Deciding factor for me was that it can't be used with a non tb device.

Plus the range of inputs is very useful, not to mention price.

Ps- wider color gamut on the dell, very useful for photographers.
