Not for everyone though. The price is still too high for people like me without money to blow for the amount of small space you get. My stock HDD does the job just great.

Some people need more space, some people want the snappier performance.

Those with tons of cash can have both ;)

I don't need a lot of space, so I'm getting the snappier SSD in my new MBP I'm getting at the end of the year.

Well of course those things always happen between backups or when you are in a bad spot.

I bought a Time Machine but it was dead and because the reseller is being a **** getting it replaced is not happening. They want me to send a brand new dead item to service for 2-4 weeks. Apple doesn't care either. They said it's not their problem basically and talk to the reseller. I get their point and I tried to get a refund but the shop refused. Apple made the defective DOA product so I thought they would TRY to help but I got nothing but attitude and comments like "every item is fully checked and working perfectly when it leaves the factory"...nonsense. Everyone is passing the buck. It has put a serious ding in my confidence in a product I WANT to love. Between this and the screen flicker I am realizing all laptops/hds etc from all brands have such a ridiculous problem rate I don't feel confident in them. My family has a 30yo TV that works great with no service ever...I have never owned a computer or HD that hasn't had some issue.

You bought "A Time Machine???" Dude, I have been looking all over for one of those!

I was referring to the software. Regardless, sounds like you have computer luck or maybe I have good computer luck :)

You will find much happiness in a SSD then, rock on.

Damn...I have been typing Time Machine every time instead of Time Capsule. I feel like one of those old ladies who always calls movies by the wrong title. Damn damn damn. I am not going to edit it though because I deserve to feel like a goon over that one ;)

Either way the thing was DOA and the reseller expects me to send it off to service...typical standards for around here though. I had hoped Big Apple would help. No dice.

Better re-sale on the 2.53, correct? You also future proof the machine a tad more. I wish I was able to order the 2.53 with 2GB/Lower HD...

I hear (and I'm sure all of you have heard) that there are issues with the Time Capsule. It seems like such a great product until you realize it just dies takes your data with you - which takes away the point.

And yes, it is expensive in the UK when you're buying laptops - but I don't feel too bad since I'm actually from Canada and prices for a lot of goods are surprisingly similar after tax. I was planning to go for the 2.53 but figured I really am because of the 4GB RAM but it can be worth it if I get a refurb and have it upgraded. We'll see if it was a good idea! I don't really do much on my laptop other than surf, write a few things and watch movies at times.

Yep the 4gb on whatever processor is a good idea. Using iStat to watch usage I never get close to being maxed with the 4GB for the every day tasks and nothing hangs or is slow.

On the damn Time Capsule I have now it seems have 3 crap options...send the brand new thing off to service (which they claim will take 2-4 weeks)...throw it in the trash...or get a lawyer and end up with higher BP and more stress over the issue. I know this can and does happen with any brand but it quickly wiped the new Apple user grin off my face. People are getting brand new computers as replacements for much less obvious issues and I can't even get a working product. I now have zero confidence Apple will makes things right if I have anymore issues. I like the OS and I like the products when they work but I now see they are not any better than the things half their cost in the end.

But really Apple is pretty smart as a business...they got my money with promises of being "better" and "just working" and in the end that's the goal...profit. Bravo Apple...trade a one time couple grand profit for a potential lifetime customer. After this laptop dies (and I hope to god it lasts a reasonable amount of time) it is back to cheaper just as unreliable options for me. That didn't take long ;)

I feel your pain but I can't help but asking why you or anyone would buy the Time Capsule??? It is much better to get the Airport Extreme and add your own external HDD.

New Apple switcher and didn't know better. Now I do. Had it worked it would be cool dont you think ;) I guess expecting things to "work" is silly.

To be fair the people in the US I have spoken too were very cool and wanting to help but since Apple EU is a different entity unless it goes way up the Cupertino chain the kind of people I can get on the phone don't have the power to deal. They said had I been in the US it would have been resolved immediately with a new one being express mailed to me. The Apple EU "decision makers" were ****s and said "not our problem". I despise buying anything in the EU between the 25% or more premium and poor customer service attitudes but I had no choice as I needed the items now. In the end I am still unproductive and this whole thing will cost me a lot...legal action is not worth it and they know it. Apple EU can go take a leap.

You know, the refurb 2.26 looks to be a pretty attractive buy at that price. I wonder what used ones run?

That's exactly what I thought. We'll see how it works. I figured that even if there is an update soon - at least I got it at a discount right? I mean I got it for £150 less than retail so it's not bad.
