I saw that the 13 Pro Max has slightly thicker bezels than the 12 series.

I’m assuming Apple did this to make the taller notch not stick out as much? 🤔

While my brain will adjust and forget about it over time, I kind of wish Apple would have just left the notch alone if it meant making it taller and the bezels thicker 😕

Anyone else agree or disagree?

Honestly I agree. I think the new notch looks worse than the previous one. I’m sure it’s something we will get used too, but the iPhone 12 series had the perfect bezels around the screen and now they look like they’ve went back to iPhoneX/XS/11Pro size to me.

People are really over-analysing this phone. I've seen threads about the shade of graphite being fractionally darker, the brightness being fractionally lower, the weight of the phone being slightly heavier and now one about the bezels being slightly thicker.

Just enjoy the device, it's a phone not a multi-billion dollar space shuttle program.

You put it in words better than I could 👍🏻

While I don’t want to blow things out of proportion since the 13 series of phones are still amazing, just that the bezels being thicker and notch being taller are minor downsides I wish Apple wouldn’t have made.

Like you said, when first opened the device it felt like I went back a couple of generations to the bezels on the X/XS/11 series 😋

Not the end of the world and I know we’ll adjust, but just wanted to get yours and others opinions on it 🙂

I'm looking at my 12 Pro Max and 13 Pro Max side by side. I honestly think the bezels are the same.

I saw a post on Twitter with a digital vernier gauge that showed the 13 Pro had bigger bezels than the 12 mini, but I'm not sure this is true comparing like-for-like.

That said I still think the bezels are too big and I was hoping they would be slimmed down this year. It's almost embarrassing when you compare it to some Android flagships.

looking at my pro 12 and the pro 13 and pro 13 bezels look the same size, notch looks much better imo, and its not that much taller, once again I hardly notice it. Tbh this is just getting to feel like nit picking for the sake of it well, that's how it feels to me, others experiences may differ of course but I tend to use my phone not stare at it or measure bits of it!

How can the bezels be bigger, when the phones and screens have the exact same dimensions? (except thicker, which doesn't matter in this case)

It's probably just an illusion with different colors. The bezels are much less prominent on a black iPhone for example.
Or because of the notch that looks different.

I keep having trouble with my phone scrolling back to the top of the page because I can’t hold it without my finger touching the screen because the bezel is so small. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Bezel needs to be thick enough for structural purposes. To me, aesthetics of a device wont be more important than a device that works even though it might look a bit dumber.

With that being said, thinner bezel I think mostly just for reducing its footprint and nothing much more than that, similar to what’s happening on iPad mini 6.

When the 14 comes out every single person with an iPhone with a notch will be history it will be all about no notch I would not bother as next year its history and well the "Notch" iPhone will be in the past

Came here to say this exact thing. In the MrWhoseTheBoss where he tests the batteries of all the iPhones on sale currently he points out that the 12 bezel looks the slimmest because it's a white phone. It's just a trick of the eyes

Not sure how a phone being white on the back makes any difference when all the different colors have the black bezel front 🤔

Besides, both my 12PM and 13PM were the grey versions and I noticed right away when I had them side-by-side at the Apple store.

As for the bezels, their definitely just a tiny bit thicker on the front of the 13 Pro Max. The difference isn’t huge, and not saying the 13PM isn’t amazing (because it is), but it’s there if you're used to the ultra-slim bezels of the 12 Pro Max.

Just a small downgrade in the looks / design of the phone and people will get used to it over time ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Nah they are definitely bigger. I am comparing my 13 pro to my wife's 12 and it's pretty easy to tell. As soon as I got mine it was the first thing I noticed compared to my 12 mini. If anything the 12 mini's bezels should have looked bigger because of less screen I would have thought.

The new notch doesn't seem much different to me as others have noticed but the bezels are obviously different to me. Not a big deal but it is what it is.

I agree one-hundred percent. Bunch of cackling hens.

Thanks wolfedude 🙂

For a second I thought I was going crazy since people in the thread were saying they weren’t any thicker 🤪

Glad I’m not the only one who sees it. Not a big deal, but wish they would have just stuck with the 12 series notch / bezel combo.

Ah it was because of the white rim (also I meant to say iPhone 13 not 12, my bad!): At 5 minutes 45 seconds. There's a 12 in that lineup too for comparison

I'm just not entirely show how the bezel could be even a tiny bit bigger if the screen size and the device physical width and height are the same? Unless the 13 screens are ever so slightly smaller than the 12s? And if this was the case, wouldn't this come up in some kind of developer code?

Also I agree with you btw about the notch - think this change to a slightly less wide notch made no sense...

Agreed. The number of phones I have bought in the past which I ended up liking less because people in forums have highlighted something I did not see and would never see, but then could not un-see . . . I suppose the answer is not to read forums, but I like the positive comments, which thankfully are in the majority. I really think some people have a problem.

I just checked out the 13 Pro today to test out the screens, and I did notice a very slightly thicker bezel on it compared to my 12 Pro. I don’t think that would matter to me.

I definitely could tell the difference between 60hz and ProMotion. I’d love to have that, along with the battery improvements.

I really don’t care a ton about the camera stuff. Better in low light settings would be the only thing I’d really use. I don’t really do much video.

I am honestly a little bit of the opinion that the new notch looks worse. It’s taller and protrudes more into the usable area of the screen, while no changes were made to take advantage of the increased space at the top of the phone. You still cannot see battery percentage or anything else. So, I just don’t see any benefit to that change and maybe even a slight disadvantage. If they aren’t going to use the added space, it’s a wasted change.

I really don’t think this thread was made to be all complaining. He didn’t complain about the bezel. He just acknowledged it and even said he would get used to it.

To me they are bigger and I’m comparing it against an iPhone 12. Also, the notch is a tad bit further down into the screen. Am I complaining? No! I’m just stating my experience. I’ll get used to it and to be honest come ~364 days none of this will matter anymore.

Everyone has a right to state how they feel about it though. In all honesty some people here feel like they must defend Apple at all costs. “Oh no you complained about tiny bigger bezels you must be a complaining cackling hen!”

Apple doesn’t do EVERYTHING right. They do wrong lol. Such as, this may be the most iterative update to the iPhone lineup EVER! Does that matter to me or am I complaining??? No, but I’m not the only one that’s said this. When you hold a 13 next to a 12 the differences are minimal.

Doesn’t change the fact that I’m an iPhone person for life. Doesn’t mean I’m “hating” on Apple either. I don’t believe this thread was made to “hate” on Apple, but some take it to heart. As seen in this thread.

Enjoy your iPhone 13, 13 mini, 13 Pro, or 13 Pro Max and if the Bezels and notch doesn’t bother you then great. If they do bother you and you wish Apple had kept the notch the same as it was (like myself) then you have a right to state that opinion. The notch is going away next year anyway so to be completely honest I don’t understand why they changed the notch this year. IMHO, the old notch even looked better, but again that’s MY OPINION.

Exactly, well said. I do as well believe the new notch looks worse. I don’t understand the reason for changing for one year when it’s going away anyway. They should have just kept the notch as is. Doesn’t change the fact that I’ll keep my 13 pro and get used to it, but we’re obviously allowed to State our opinions.

It’s like the thread on here yesterday when Dan had his unboxing and first impressions video and people in that thread was trashing his opinions just because he didn’t agree with everything Apple did with this years iPhone. So what? He doesn’t agree with everything that the next person might… they didn’t need to trash the man’s opinion. I’m in the group who thinks the notch looks worse, the bezels look a tad bit larger, cinematic and Macro modes in the cameras won’t get too much real world use and I don’t care for the diagonal cameras on the regular 13. So what? Ya know. I still bought a 13 Pro and plan on using it for the next year and I will get used to it all.
