iPhone 13 Pro Max Any reason the 13 series bezels are thicker than the ones on the 12 series, besides to try and make the now taller notch not stand out as much?

What should Apple have done with the notch + bezels?

  • Kept it the same as the 12 series. Keep the notch is wider but shorter + thinner bezels.

Could those who believe the new models have thicker bezels please account for how this is possible when the length, width, screen size, resolution, and pixels per inch are the same?

The bezels are certainly not thicker on a like-for-like basis (i.e. 12 Pro vs. 13 Pro, 12 Pro Max vs. 13 Pro Max).

The Pro models have thicker bezels than the mini but that was the case last year too.

There is no like-for-like increase.

It’s like the thread on here yesterday when Dan had his unboxing and first impressions video and people in that thread was trashing his opinions just because he didn’t agree with everything Apple did with this years iPhone. So what? He doesn’t agree with everything that the next person might… they didn’t need to trash the man’s opinion. I’m in the group who thinks the notch looks worse, the bezels look a tad bit larger, cinematic and Macro modes in the cameras won’t get too much real world use and I don’t care for the diagonal cameras on the regular 13. So what? Ya know. I still bought a 13 Pro and plan on using it for the next year and I will get used to it all.

Nobody in this thread is trashing opinions, I just don't know why things like a fractional bezel size increase is even something to bother caring about? Sure, it might be bigger but so what?
 
I think the notch height is a bigger issue than bezels. Maybe the bezels are the same and just appear bigger because of some optical illusion.

All things considered, I’d have no issue buying the 13 Pro, if I was needing a new phone. Hell, I’m half tempted to get one even though I have the 12 Pro. As I mentioned earlier, ProMotion feels great and the battery life gains would be more than welcome for me.

I think most the people in this thread are overall happy with their 13/Pro/Max or think highly of the phone. They’re just pointing out areas for improvement. Just like some reviewers pointing out rightly that lightening is not sufficient for these Pro phones that can shoot enormous video files that would take a very long time to transfer to a computer wirelessly or via lightening. This year was an ideal time to move to USB-C/Thunderbolt.

Overall, they seem like excellent phones. They’re just not perfect. Nothing wrong with being honest about that. Understandably, Apple makes trade-off decisions during design. You don’t have to agree with every one of them. You just have to agree with them on average/as a whole.
 
I actually caved and decided I’d take advantage of T-Mobile’s $1000 trade in for my 12 Pro and get a 13 Pro. I wasn’t going to upgrade my 12 Pro for at least 3 years anyway. I figured I might at well get the free step up between now and then.

I’m sure the 14 will be great, but getting rid of the notch doesn’t matter very much to me. It’s never bothered me. I’ll be happy to have ProMotion and better battery life on the 13 Pro for the next 2-3 years.

Lol, finally someone with sense!

The OP is crazy.

Leave the notch, "Apple can't innovate" "we want no/small notch!"
Make the notch smaller, "Apple increased the bezels!" "new notch sucks, it's taller!"
Remove the notch, "I loved the notch! Why did you remove it???????????" "I hate this pinhole camera!!!!"

Can't win
