Any reason to run soft.upgrades if not using safari oe lion?

Just got notified of big safari upgrade today.Ive been running all software upgrades since bought new imac in Dec.I use firefox and am happy with snow leopard so any reason to run the safari upgrade?Why take up space if I dont need this stuff?
