Hi, Cyberduck and Transmit 5 were supposed to be free but after using them for awhile, they stopped working and I am prompted to pay. Are there good and free ftp programs?

The command line version is free, but no longer included with macOS current versions. If you can grab the executable from a Sierra install, put it into /usr/local/bin, permissions 555 and ownership root:wheel.

Use sftp. It's still there. Nobody should use ftp. Screenshot 2020-10-28 at 15.45.16.png

OP, it may be a bit intimidating to use the command line and sftp this way, but it's really easy. You can look up the commands on the old internet.

I'm so old...

The only way I've ever transferred files with FTP is with the command line. If I need 'GUI bling', turn hash on...

EDIT: And FTP Software was a thing. A real company...

Is this really necessary for an FTP/SFTP client application? I already do have the "fingerprint" to check if it's the proper FTP/SFTP server I am connecting to.

I mean it's just and FTP/SFTP client ... it's not Adobe's Activation Server for their old CS suites. Dr. Snowden ... 🤣

Will all software follow and ask for your location in the future?
